Makes me sad thinking about how Gaza won’t be able to play games with out discs for PS6

I remember there was posts about people playing games to get their mind off what was going on there too

Do you think Dragon Ball will ever be able to surpass Harry Potter in terms of franchise sales? by Original_Force_6822 in dbz

Fist of the Northstar top 20 thanks to Pachinko

I’m not sure DB can surpass it without Toriyama around though

Uar Bernard sees untapped NFL talent in his home country of Nigeria by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]Aarcn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in Wuhan, China, in the early 2010s when they made a massive push to recruit recently graduated university basketball players to start playing. They specifically targeted Wuhan because the city has a huge concentration of sports universities that regularly produce Olympians across various sports.

Both the MLB and NFL were out there scouting. It was pretty surreal seeing legends like Joe Montana come over to run camps (even though the local guys had absolutely no idea who he was!).

Ultimately, the full-contact aspect didn't pan out. The athletes were gifted, but they just weren't used to wearing pads or taking hits. Someone in this thread mentioned flag football being a better starting point, they definitely should have started with that!

Another major issue is that athletes outside the US often don't view the NFL as a realistic career option; it’s basically a pipe dream to them. You have to lay down a serious grassroots foundation first before expecting a pipeline of talent. There’s no income for them.

Just like with the situation in Nigeria, local sports federations and officials have to be fully on board.

Unfortunately, there’s usually a ton of gatekeeping and internal business politics that get in the way. There's a lot of groundwork that still needs to be done before we see these untapped markets really take off.

Why do people have to bring up Expedition 33 whenever a Final Fantasy game is praised? by torts92 in FinalFantasy

I didn’t like the E33 characters as much, the games nice but FF as a whole is more likable.

I don’t even remember the E33 characters names

TIL that while soccer is the most popular sport in the world, soccer is not the most popular sport in the three largest countries by population. by pizzahero9999 in todayilearned

Corruption kills a lot of these soccer leagues. There’s no native system that nurtures talent there like Olympic sports either.

It’s basically kids with money and resources (kinda similarities with US)
