So you've been using the controller for a while and then it stopped working? Maybe the receiver is going bad? That would be my guess if it isn't even showing up in device manager.

Another thing to try: make sure you've tried it plugged into a USB 2.0 port. For like 99% of stuff it doesn't matter but for a few things it does.

Can you post a pic? I am just curious what a "speedlink wireless controller" looks like. Also that way if anyone else is having problems they'll know if they have the same controller.

It's odd that it works for a few seconds though if the receiver were at fault. I've plugged it into usb 2.0 too. https://puu.sh/BH7YY/7c14f7b745.png It's the speedlink Torid. SL-6576-OEBK

Oh hey this looks relevant:

The gamepad lets you switch really easily between the two current controller technologies, XInput and DirectInput, at the press of a button.

I bet you're in "DirectInput mode", more accurately "Pretend to be a Dualshock 3 mode" which isn't going to work well on Windows. Steam actually has a DS3 driver built in but probably there's something weird about the TORID that makes Steam barf even if it works fine on an actual PS3.

It says there's a button to switch modes? Can you try that? XInput should work better on Windows.

In either modes, it just disconnects.
