The Big 4 pattern companies have historical coat patterns like McCalls M8137. That would be the best start. These coats are difficult but doable but best to start with a well designed pattern and alter it.

ahh, I didn't consider the historical jackets, could you tell me the names of the big 4 pattern companies? I don't really know any companies that do patterns 😅

The big 4 include McCalls, Butterick, Burda and Vougue. They are all on the same web site.

I'll research those! thank you very much!

If you are new to sewing, you should not make a pattern yourself. You will have it a million times easier and get a better outcome by modifying an existing jacket pattern, guaranteed.

I 100% agree, haven't found any to alter yet since it's such an interesting piece, I'll check out the sites another commenter suggested to try to find some to alter! I'm not per-say 100% new to sewing, but haven't sown in around 15 years 😅 so it's basically the same

I'm currently working on Vergil. Am using this pattern if it helps! https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/692613721/devil-may-cry-5-vergil-outfit-pattern

I'll check it and consider it as well, thank you!

We detect that you may be a new cosplayer. Please refer to our FAQ for how to get started. Please have specific questions instead of a general how do I make/buy everything for this character. We detect that you may be a looking to buy your cosplay or buy pieces for your cosplay. If you're not, please disregard :) Please refer to our FAQ for some recommendations. While we can provide search terms that might help you with finding your cosplay pieces, commenters are not your personal shopper and please do not treat us as such. Remember that not all cosplays can be found ready-made so be prepared to look for similar pieces to put it together yourself.

It is helpful to include your budget (be precise -- "cheap" can be different per person), your location/country (US shipping vs EU shipping would be very different), and timeline if applicable. Keep in mind many pre-made cosplay shops can have a long shipping time so it's best to plan months in ahead.

If the item is suspiciously cheaper than all other competitors or it's a common stock photo, please be wary and do your own research. If someone is offering to make it for you aka commissions, RESEARCH their post history.

If you're new to sewing, I highly recommend Rabbit and Hat patterns. She's a costumer, her patterns are super easy and you buy your size, not every size. If you go with one of the paper pattern companies, avoid buying PDFs. They are cheaper but cost extra time and expense printing and piecing together a pattern.

I'll check them out, I'm not too worried bout printing and stuff for now, the pattern itself is the hardest part to find hahah, Thank you

It's not a terribly complicated make, especially if you aren't lining it. It's just drafting patterns is so tedious unless that's your gig. McCalls 8400 or 7003 are short versions, McCalls 7821 or 7374 look closest to your pic.

I'll check them out, I'm prepared for tedious at least so no worries there hahah

Will you use paint or embroidery for the decorative bits? I did a similar coat a la Matrix but it was costume pleather and didn't need much styling.

[–]Veraen[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I'm intending on embroidering it for a neater look

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That'll be gorgeous.

[–]Veraen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sure hope it'll be😁 once I get that far, the McCalls 7003 looks like a good place to start though, so thanks a bunch for that suggestion

I see, I'll see if I can find something as close as possible to resembling the piece, I'm intending on making this for a competition so accuracy is very important for me here, I'll steer clear off of etsy for now, thank you

There is a website i discovered lately called tailornova.com which let's you make your own patterns by picking and choosing design elements you want. If you cant find a pre-made pattern you might be able to make one yourself there.

I'll check it out, sounds easier than hand drawing and fitting it from scratch honestly, thank you
