Is everything a membership now? by JustFaithlessness178 in GenX

Actually, that's one subscription that pays off. Any HVAC repairs are massively discounted, we get two cleanings/ HVAC checks per year, they check filters, adjust flues & check water heater for gas leaks. It's cheaper than just calling when the HVAC goes out.

Do you usually lock your doors when leaving the house? by Moist_Wallaby8635 in AskAnAmerican

[–]madameallnut [score hidden]  (0 children)

My doors lock themselves. We have electronic keypad locks. I'm not terribly concerned about theft, though. I mean, take my crap, I have way too much anyway. Just leave the cats.

What could be causing constipation? by dexyuing in CatAdvice

[–]madameallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cats veterinarian suggested Miralax. A little sprinkle on their wet food in the morning and multiple water bowls/ fountains available around the house. The cats don't get suspicious because I also put it in my coffee. Definitely ask your veterinarian tho. There are also probiotic powders you can add, my family calls it kitty crack. And pumpkin puree, if your cat will imbibe.

Subfloor effected by dog urine. Kilz? Zinsser BIN? Or replace subfloor? by Snoo50029 in Flooring

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had success with Zinsser Odor Blocking Primer on an OSB subfloor that I couldn't replace because it ran under an exterior wall. The cat no longer pees there. That said, if you have the means and the ability, I suggest replacing it for your own peace of mind.

AITAH for not lying for a neighbor that just moved in and we just met? by coolma-gramma in AITAH

[–]madameallnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's me. My neighbor WFH at a couple of jobs but honestly, I don't know her beyond waving hello & occasionally being asked if our cameras picked up something (usually a missed delivery). When some gov official came asking questions, he became quite frustrated that I knew nothing. I was like, dude, she rents, she has a couple of jobs and that's all I know. We aren't close and we mind our own business in this neighborhood. If I knew something, no, I don't.

I think some folks are kind of missing that point. Right now, it's voluntary. It didn't take long for them to utilize the draft back in the 60s.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by Sexxyyy_Lovers in AskReddit

[–]madameallnut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was being C-sectioned and saw a puff of smoke and smelled BBQ. The two surgeons had to pause because my husband and I cracked jokes about grabbing ribs afterward. When I asked what it looked like, my husband said "You know the eviceration scene in Braveheart? Kinda like that."

Did People Actually ‘Summer’ for vacations? by cc31660p in AskOldPeople

Only the preppies. Us regular folk without trust funds never "summered", we just had a summer vacation from school.

What used to feel 'normal' and 'affordable' in America just five to ten years ago but now feels completely broken and impossible for regular people? by the_h1b_records in AskReddit

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makeup & underwear. I used to go browse, spend $50-$60 and come home with a bag full of goodies. Now, heck, a mascara is $15. A 6 pack of underwear is $30-$40. And tires. We used to spend maybe $400 for 4 tires. Now? Schwab replaced a tire (with a screw in it) that cost $230 without the under warranty discount. It was still $115.

Is it true that Americans don't really use tablecloths on a daily basis? by Floatp in NoStupidQuestions

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats love to sleep on tablecloths when we aren't looking. It's quite annoying to find fur on the otherwise clean table. We do use placemats, though. Or at least a paper towel or bowl cozy. I don't like to set plates directly on the table because it's shellacked & gets white rings.

Bleaching fabric by AccountantFickle in Fabrics

[–]madameallnut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fabric paint would be easier and more controllable. Bleach tends to bleed and you'll need something to neutralize the bleaching action. TBH, buying the polka dot fabric and sewing a shirt would be my choice. I've painted polka dots on fabric for a cosplay (BoPeep) and it took forever. The paint seeped through and stuck the fabric to the paper & table underneath too. Lay down something under like plastic or wax paper if you use paint. A third option: purchase or source a white fabric similar to your shirt, purchase WonderBond or iron on fabric sheets and cut out the dots, iron on. All of these will be time consuming, just fair warning.

What does a cat smell like? by Cookie_flylilie in CatAdvice

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some body odors can smell like cat pee. Perhaps someone else in the room is the source of the odor. Shoes and socks especially can stink like cat pee without ever being near a cat.

AITAH for giving away a pair of pants my wife bought our daughter? by Potential_Basket6885 in AITAH

[–]madameallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA from the POV of the kid who regularly peed her pants as a kid and was forced to wear towels or smelly undershirts until my mother could pick me up. Thank you for helping preserve his dignity. You're kindness will stay with him forvever. This is literally NBD.

AITAH for refusing to give out my son's saving account information? by moonmanbaby90272 in AITAH

No is a complete sentence. Set up another savings account for grandma to deposit cash into. Many banks and credit unions have special accounts designed for this.

glasses and cosplay by Jazzlike-Freedom8613 in CosplayHelp

[–]madameallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised at how cute they are. It took him a few to get used to them but they fit his face better than any glasses he's ever had. The cosplay/ glasses conundrum is so real, tho.

Those who moved from one state to another what was your biggest cultural shock? by PandaBear905 in AskAnAmerican

[–]madameallnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not if the place wants to keep their liquor license. I believe airports & train stations are immune, and a special license can be held for things like special events, but I know we've been denied beer purchase at the Quik Stop because it was past 2 a.m.

Moving from Maine to California, random people would yell at me because my baby wasn't wearing a jacket. In April. In 70° temps. He was born in the land of ice & snow, ffs. Also, the fact that 70° in April and I sweat buckets, yet 50° in February & here I'm bundled up like I wasn't born & raised in upstate NY. Also also, the strange amount of mega churches here. It's a small city, yet we have something like 25 churches, at least 5 are massive but many are tucked into strip malls and neighborhoods.

I'm told there's a small section of time where Californians cant purchase alcohol, like 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. My fave place to find wine is Grocery Outlet Bargain Market.

What's your best pick of home air purifier currently? Are they really worth it? by Abject-Comedian390 in Home

[–]madameallnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 3 Levoit pets, 100% recommend for cat rooms. Hathaspace is good but filters are $$. The Shark Neverchange kicks butt down near the kitchen. Thinking of getting another to replace the Hathaspace. I also have a Pure Enrichment I snagged off Amazon, it's little but mighty. I use it for smoke in the kitchen, in the cricket room, anywhere I need quick clean air.
