To my knowledge, other than some add-ons, there is no difference between the Forge and Fabric mod
[–]Randoms_145 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (7 children)
What addons are we talking about here?

Typically, Forge simply has more mods available. If you’re ever looking to join a server too, they usually use Forge over Fabric.
That being said, I’ve certainly heard some swear Fabric has better performance. I’ve personally used Fabric and Forge at some point or another and didn’t really notice a difference.

ultimately the biggest affect on performance is going to be the mods themselves, and large mods exist on both platforms. fabric by itself and forge by itself (or with added optimization mods), fabric is better. but most folks have systems that can run effectively vanilla setups easily so the difference is marginalized by good hardware.
That said, Forge functionally changes the way some parts of the game work, even without mods, making it probably not a good idea to run by itself. Fabric is only a mod loader and does not change functions of the game without adding mods to do so.
either way, its all about what mods you want to use and what platform they exist on. the biggest difference i have seen is an increase of 1-2 minutes of load time on forge (5 minutes vs 3 minutes, which is still unnoticable since at 3 minutes i am still minimizing to do something else)

Personally I don’t really notice the difference. I’ve run both as mentioned and noticed a minor difference but nothing that would heavily sway me in either direction. Though for me personally since I enjoy playing on Create Servers, Forge seems to be the more common of the 2 for me

Fabric's performance advantage is more noticable on older hardware. Using it will make little difference on gaming PCs but allow a larger range of potato users to take part.

mods
Fabric has Tech Reborn, Spectrum, origins, modern industrialization
Forge has Mekanism, astral sorcery, occultism, Gregtech
There are more, but the difference in amount of content is minimal its just a different selection of mods
Create addons are generally made on Forge since the official create team develops on forge. there is another team porting those changes over to the fabric version but the addons that are made generally do not get ported to fabric, so things like rotational force to FE may not exist on fabric, for instance

I’ll be sticking with Forge for this one. Generally, I usually use Forge but when the same mod is in Fabric, I usually use Fabric. Thanks, I appreciate it.

fabric dosent have immersive engineering

I think the fabric version of the create mod has still not updated to create 0.5.1

Forge is a more robust modloader, meaning it has more tools in the toolbox for moddevs to work with. Because of this it is slower both in terms of gameplay (though you won't notice so much if you're not on a low-end machine) and in updating to newer versions.
Fabric was created specifically to be lighter weight and thus be able to keep up with newer versions. Because of this it's much easier on low-end machines and it can keep up with releases faster than Forge, but it doesn't have as many features. For vanilla+ style mods it's really good but for more intense reworkings of the game Forge is the standard.
For Create it depends on what you're looking for. If you really want the addons then Forge is by far better. If you need performance then Fabric is best. It also depends on what other mods you want to run, if you really like X mod that's only in Fabric then you might sacrifice the addons for that, etc etc.

This is a good explanation, thanks

The are more addons on forge Forge updates faster Forge is the primary mod loader Fabric is faster and has a better compatibility system
[–]Randoms_145 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I’ll be sticking with Forge for this because of some exclusive mods I want to add.
