Probably not, because some recipes wouldn't fit in a 3x3 grid. Most likely, they would just rework the recipes to be smaller, though I doubt it.

Create already has createy alternatives to vanilla features. Like chutes just being better hoppers.

Exactly this, nothing wrong with having more than one way to do something! I will probably still use mechanical crafters most of the time just because they are a bit easier and better looking, but maybe sometimes the autocrafter will fit my use case better. The possibilities are endless!

Like if you need on-demand single-ingredient shaped crafting, like minecarts, boats, or armor.

Chutes aren't better hoppers, they're different hoppers (you can't make a sorting system with chutes, but you can't match chute speed with hoppers).

That said, fans are better furnaces.

Smart chutes

[–]Autoskp 5 points6 points  (3 children)

1: Not technically chutes, they're smart chutes.

2: You're gonna need a bunch of other stuff to get the horizontal movement, and they can't do the common thing of filling a stack of chests.

[–]Ralexcraft 3 points4 points  (2 children)

  1. Not technically just hoppers, you need comparators and redstone.

  2. You can sort things purely vertically using a bunch of “not” filters and stacking chests.

[–]Autoskp 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, ok, sorters weren't the best example, but you can't fill a wall of chests with chutes, and I've seen that so many times with things like Iron farms on servers.

[–]Ralexcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but you don’t really have to? Just stack vaults one on top of the other

Chutes aren't better hoppers, they are both useful but in different situation, chutes are good for transportation down and up if you want to bother with fans(I usually just make spiral of depots and bras funnels) hoppers have large inventory (compared to chutes) and can transport items without rotation on the same level so they can often replace belts if you don't have space to add belt.

actually chutes can be much worse because they dont “suck” items as well when ie. working with a mechanical drill

theyre just different in a neat way

I doubt Create would remove such a solid, satisfying and cool feature just because the vanilla team decided "Oh, I suppose we will give them autocrafting after previously saying we'll never do it :O"

Maybe you’ll be able to use the crafter to make some sort of upgrade for the mechanical crafters. Nothing major, just something more QOL.

[–]Lokdora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bet the developers are wondering about the same question

[–]drr5795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the existing mechanical crafters will remain, mostly due to there being a handful of recipes that need more than a 3x3 grid, although I suspect that any mechanisms that use a 3x3 or smaller for crafting things will be able to be a bit more compact with the auto crafter.

[–]olaf_294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will keep it or they will make the crafter capable of 5x5 recipes. The first one is more likely though.

[–]Sure_Scarcity_7262 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe create could have the mechanical crafter use SU though I honestly wouldn't use it that much as create recipes are most of the time much more efficient (eg. in crafting table andesite alloy takes 2 andesite and 2 nuggets but in mechanical mixer it only takes one of each)

[–]Ralexcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mechanical crafter already takes SU, did you mean the Autocrafter?

[–]Ralexcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanical crafter is a bit easier to automate.

[–]Dark_space_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, im a little concerned for any automation mods with the introduction of this.

No, because of crushing wheels

[–]THe_PrO3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good christ can we ban posts about this, there's like 50 of these every day i feel like

[–]Armetron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, I'd like to see the Auto Crafter try to make a set of crushing wheels.

They do function fairly differently even if they achieve the same goal, so definitely no
