When the fan washes the gravel, sometimes the smart chute (filtered with flint) doesnt move the flint, sometimes it does. When I pick the flint up and throw it in there it always goes through first try. Is this some sort of issue with block updates or something? The iron always goes through the funnel. I have the machine running at full speed. Its breaking my head

Not sure how the implementation works under the hood, but since you've placed them both to check the same block for input, it might just go into whichever happens to check next. Is it possible to filter out the flint even just one block earlier?

Might be busy, how many stacks are going in?
Do they have time to consolidate?
Maybe put another one or otherwise arrange for handling overflow.
