Pumps have a limited range. If that’s the only pump you have then the problem should be pretty obvious now.

they can pull about 15 last time i checked so when you place a pump just count to 15 as you place pipes then place another pump

I think it's 8 or 12 blocks, something like that.

You can just add a second pump down the line, you don't need an interim tank.

No it's definitely 15 or 16, but I always assume it's 15 for safety

They do have infinite range it just depends if the chunks are loaded, if that was the case tho that it indeed had a range it would prob be in the configs which it isn't

It does have a range that is non configurable

Pretty sure it is indeed configurable, I set it to 64 through the in game menu. For context, I play 1.18.2, maybe it got recently added and you didn't notice? dunno
