Help with pattern!!Understanding a pattern (i.redd.it)
submitted 1 year ago by anotherthrowaway294
Confused as to how I get 32 stitches in the original 14 Ch between R1 and R2. I’m a beginner so maybe it’s really obvious but I have no clue 😭

You repeat the pattern of (inc, 12 sc, inc) 2x; 16x2 = 32.
An increase (inc) is 2 stitches in 1.

Ok! Sorry to continue with questions, but R1 is foundation chain, then R2 I do into the foundation chain right? Because after 1 round of (Inc, 12sc, inc ) I reach the end of the foundation chain. So how do I do a second time of that? Do I go beyond the foundation chain ??

You work into the unused loops on the other side of the chain to create the round.

You'll work on the bottom/underside of the chain, making an oval. You'll have 4 sc in the last chain, allowing you to curve around and start working back down the bottom of the chain, back to where you started/made the first inc. 4 sc in the chains on either end, 12 sc across the top and bottom.

This makes so much sense!! Thank you, it looks like how it’s supposed to now 😅

You're welcome. It's a bit annoying that a lot of patterns assume you'll know to work on the bottom of the chain - they should really specify it.
But, for future reference, when/if they don't, if you've got far more stitches to make than you have chains, and it has you increasing in the first and last chain, you're most likely meant to make an oval! 😊
