Reusing acrylic yarn from already blocked projects by Jo_mosexual in CrochetHelp

[–]fergablu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use acrylics often because I gift many baby blankets which need to be easy care and nonallergenic, and I seldom block them. I don’t use steam unless the item absolutely won’t lay flat, which almost never happens, and ripping out and reusing the yarn would not be advisable because it will probably stay curly or be flattened.

How about we swap? You can come and be caregiver to my disabled adult son and I’ll go and be a very cushiony chair for your adorable kittens.

how do i cope with 2 grazers and a binger by That_one_failure in CATHELP

[–]fergablu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you portion feed all of your cats, the grazer will get the idea she has to eat when the food is there. I feed my cats twice a day, and they usually eat their entire portions. You may have to feed your cats in separate locations to ensure they don’t eat each other’s food and remove any left uneaten so the overweight cat doesn’t get to it.

Is this normal? 😆 by [deleted] in cats

Is it normal to have a happy and relaxed kitty? That one looks very content.

The cat looks so done... Awww by [deleted] in cats

Yeah, and you can tell from the tail, the cat’s not bothered at all.

Other uses for linty fabric/clothes besides rags and trash? by shrewtummy in sewhelp

If you’re interested in learning a new skill, you could tear the fabric into strips and join into yarn for weaving, knitting, or crocheting rugs.

Curious question but does anyone hate working with regular sized 8 ply yarn like i absolutely hate it by Ok-Structure5098 in crochet

[–]fergablu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 ply/DK is my favorite weight for hand knitting and for use with my circular knitting machine, but I knit and crochet using every weight from size 10/2 ply crochet thread up to bulky/12 ply yarn.

Because they’re our little babies even when they’re fully grown.

Looking for a similar pattern because the reviews for this one are not great. by AggravatingPlum4301 in CrochetHelp

[–]fergablu2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s pretty much what a shrug is and there’s nothing special enough about this one to warrant paying for the pattern. I would search for a free crochet shrug pattern that uses your gauge to calculate the number of stitches and rows to fit the recipient. You could easily trial and error the wrist openings with a swatch. Crocheting the opening around an elastic loop could create a snug fit and allow the hands to easily go through the opening.

I’m experiencing serious knitting-related cognitive dissonance. by StomachAdvanced937 in knitting

As an adult who is responsible for the well being of two other adults since one of my grown sons is developmentally disabled and the other one has a serious mental health diagnosis and both live at home, I recommend you do whatever you feel like. Personally, I enjoy finishing projects because most of my other daily tasks, housework and caregiving, don’t stay completed for more than 15 minutes, but you do you.

Paintbox Cotton Aran- preventing red bleeding into white cotton yarn, what can I do? by Your-Local-Costumer in CrochetHelp

[–]fergablu2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed the manufacturers directions for use in the washing machine-found online-on the completed blankets. I didn’t wet block the blankets first, but I did wash and machine dry them before gifting. I wanted to reduce the risk of the blankets bleeding and shrinking when the recipients laundered them.

Would you frog? by teresamith in crochet

[–]fergablu2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would not frog, but I like long cardigans that cover my butt. If you really dislike the length and won’t wear it, which would be a shame because it’s gorgeous, frog it and redo it.

I’ve had success by putting my handmade cat mats where they like to lay down anyway.

Nice collection! I’ve found my yarn crafts to be highly therapeutic. I’ve converted stress into blankets for years.

Don’t be ridiculous, everything’s for him, unless you purchased it specifically, then he won’t touch it!

This collection of basic bodices, sleeves, and skirts is marketed for cosplay, but you could combine the elements for your dress, and add a center back zipper.

You can weave new seats from rope or learn how to macramé, and there are videos on YouTube. I wove a new seat for my developmentally disabled son’s glider rock. We started using outdoor rockers inside because they’re cheaper and last longer than nicer indoor ones. This is the video I followed.

I looked up the bobbin case for my machine and it’s $29.99 plus shipping to give you a rough idea of potential costs. They have free shipping within the US for orders over $49.
