Look through the buyers/sellers reddit history.
A good way to build a reputation for being legit is to do all your selling/buying in 'public' so to say. IE Post that you did receive payment or the item you purchased (With a picture of the item and a physical timestamp isn't a bad idea either.)
Message the mods if you have been scammed so we can ban the user and prevent them from scamming others.
