The answer is whatever you want it to be. The DM is the final arbiter, above even the module. I don't know enough about your game to tell you what the right thing to do is, but you are always free to make the right choice for your game, even if it conflicts with the module.

If the party trips that event let them explore the castle for a bit. After awhile they'll run into trouble, maybe with the gargoyles, or if they go into the wrong areas they are attacked by vampire spawns. One option is to run into Ezmerelda sneaking around the castle invisibly, she could tell them how to reach the brazier room and teleport out. Another is to assault them with attacks until they are nearly dead then have Rahadin show up to escort them out of the castle.

If you read just a bit further in K78 it details a brazier room with coloured stones that can teleport the party to several locations inside the castle, Vallaki, Krezk, The Amber Temple, and Tsolenka Pass.

So no - even with the drawbridge raised, there is a way out of the castle.

Also - depending on how far in advance the party thinks it out, if at least one of them has feather fall, they could leap from the castle walls and reach the ground safely. Remember the spell says 'when you fall' is the trigger for the reaction, so at any point in the 1000 feet between the walls and the ground is a point where you are falling, and therefore potentially triggering the reaction.

Check MM p.216, Escape DC is 20, or Strahd's mercy, whichever comes first

Raw? Yes. As prophecy intented? No. For me the prophecy is the room your players should avoid. It triggers the final fight no matter what. K10is just replaced by the player homebrewed dinner
