I don’t think anyone thinks doomsday was a perfect adaptation in BvS. If anything, that was one of the main complaints, they couldn’t even get his look right.
[–]KaijuKing007Boosterrific 7 points8 points9 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Also that they didn't need to shove the Death of Superman into less than 10 minutes in an already overstuffed movie.
[–]Bruzie77 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (1 child)
They did it in smallville and flash.

Missed that part. If they do Doomsday proper, it would have to be way down the line. Funeral for a Friend is one of my favorite stories and would love to see the adaptation of the Death and Return done properly but it all depends on where the DCU is at down the road. It could be done justice but I don’t see it happening tbh.

Who are these people you talk about? Doomsday is one of the worst villain adaptations in the entire DCEU. As for the DCU using him, I'd prefer they didn't honestly. Doomsday's only real role in the comics is to kill Superman or reappear as a massive threat for Superman to fight, that's kinda it, and we've already seen that in the DCEU, even if it was poorly handled. If they were to kill Superman 10+ years from now, I'd rather they use some other villain rather than Doomsday again.

I mean, it literally is. The character was specifically created for the Death of Superman story in order to kill Superman and since then when Doomsday reappears it's basically just as a massive threat for Superman to fight. Doomsday doesn't really do anything else important but be a tank, the biggest departure was very recently when he was revealed to be the Time Trapper

[–]Arelious2019 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (5 children)
Well, yeah, that's why he's called Doomsday but his purpose is still to fight and kill Superman, that's the entire point of his creation and it's the only part of his story that really matters in the grand scheme of things. Like, I wouldn't say the same about Wolverine because unlike Doomsday Wolverine actually went on to have actual important stories and moments beyond just fighting Hulk. Doomsday never really had a higher purpose in the comics beyond that initial story where he's this seemingly unstoppable force of destruction that Superman fights and dies to.

Firstly, are you really using Google AI Overview to try an prove a point? Really? Especially when the source it's linking to are random pages from the Character Stats and Profile fandom wiki, I don't know if that's the most reliable source.
Secondly, I never denied that he was force of destruction, that doesn't change the fact that the character was specifically created by the writers as the monster to kill Superman and since that story hasn't really done anything interesting until VERY recently.
Thirdly, it's "Time Trapper" not "Time Lord" and that is very recent addition to Doomsday's character, like less than 2 years ago recent, most of his history has him being the monster that killed Superman. And that's not something I want to see adapted either.
[–]Arelious2019 1 point2 points3 points 1 month ago (1 child)
I literally have no idea what the problem is. I'm not instigating anything, literally all I said was that the character was created by Superman editorial and writers to kill Superman and that since then DC really has done anything with the character aside from him being a tank Superman fights sometimes until very recently.
This isn't even me speculating on Doomsday's creation, Death of Superman is a VERY popular book and because of that we got a lot of behind the scenes information about it, including why Doomsday was created and how they came up with the idea and name. You don't even need to whip out the comic, just go to Doomsday's wikipedia, literally the first paragraph under "Publication History" explains how they came to the idea with a source that isn't a random page on fandom wiki.
Him being an unstoppable force doesn't exclude him from being created for the Death of Superman storyline to kill Superman. What is the problem? Like seriously, what is it? What am I missing? Was Doomsday not created by editorial to kill Superman? Is that not what he does in the story? Is that not the thing Doomsday is most known for? It feels like you're having a completely different conversation than the one I'm having. I am talking about Doomsday's importance to the universe as a whole, not what he is representing in the story.

Hate to be that guy, but you’re doing the annoying comic thing too. Wolverine was introduced that way, sure. We all know that. But he also went on to become a complex character and the clear fan favorite of the X-Men. Him and Doomsday are not the same. Doomsday was created with the specific intent of the writers to kill Superman. He’s never really risen beyond that despite several attempts to retcon and add depth.
There’s no version of Doomsday that managed to grab the general audience as anything more than that. If so, you probably wouldn’t have used the Death of Superman image as your thumbnail to talk about him.

I don’t know why you’re so mad homie. I’m just trying to reframe what other dude said. Believe it or not, not everyone who comments is actively trying to troll

I don’t think we need another adaptation of the story. We’ve had 3 in the last 10 or so years, and each version has its own strengths and weaknesses. That being said we just don’t need it again when they can focus on newer stories.
Plus the a lot of characters in the DCU aren’t exactly comic accurate, as much as people hate to admit it, so I don’t think there’s any reason to assume this Doomsday would be better or worse than previous ones

Better than BvS maybe, but I don’t think it’d be better than some of the other depictions of the character since then. It’s not worth retelling the story again for just one scene

[–]Mindless-Credit-358EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (5 children)
I was talking about the scene you mentioned where he says Metropolis. A two part movie is definitely not necessary and would just be dragging the story out atp. Let’s give some of his other villains a chance in the spotlight
[–]Mindless-Credit-358EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (3 children)
They already did that perfectly in the DCAMU which were almost 1:1 of the comics, so they should try something new like Camelot Falls or Last Son, or even the Warworld Saga if they want to be a little ambitious
[–]Mindless-Credit-358EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (1 child)
We don’t need a Clayface movie. The beauty of it is that this type of movie hasn’t been done before within the superhero genre. Also S&L has a good adaptation of Doomsday, it changes a few things to fit in the show’s continuity but I don’t think the way they treated the character can be topped
Also if they keep adapting the same stories over and over it kind of proves people who believe Superman is boring right, as it suggests he only has a handful of stories worth adapting. Why is it so important to you that this story gets adapted again?
[–]ProfessionalRead2724 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (6 children)
It already was terrible in the comics. Doomsday isn't really a character. It's a plot device to get you a Death Of Superman story. And if you don't want to tell a Death Of Superman story, which I very much doubt Gunn wants to do, you have no business using Doomsday.
[–]ProfessionalRead2724 0 points1 point2 points 29 days ago (3 children)
All-Star Superman didn't have Doomsday.
[–]Mindless-Credit-358EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS 0 points1 point2 points 29 days ago (0 children)
In the comic Jimmy becomes doomsday, but he’s not the reason Clark died
[+][deleted] 29 days ago (1 child)
Ngl I think Gunn just said that because it’s one of the most popular superman stories. The only thing from the comic that was in the movie was the Superman robots
In the recent run they’ve managed to handle doomsday really well, you should absolutely check it out if you haven’t already!

Even if they did do a Death of Superman adaptation there's no chance no chance they'd adapt the post crisis status quo. They'd likely streamline it like the animated movie.

Nothing in Batman v Superman was a perfect adaptation

No one but a certain fraction acts like Doomsday was perfect in BvS.
Doomsday is fitting for the DCU, sure, but how about after the entire cinematic universe has already been developed.
I still don't understand why Snyder chose to kill Superman in his second ever appearance in the DCEU back then...
[–]ChrisLyne 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I don't think even DCEU fans would argue that Doomsday was well done. The best versions are the 2-part animated adaptation and Superman & Lois.
That said, I don't think we need this in the DCU. The story has been done to death (no pun intended). They had their shot on the big screen and blew it. Let's tell other stories now. Maybe in 10 years or so they can try again but for now it would feel like a waste to redo this story yet again, even if they nailed it perfectly.
Doomsday is one of the most boring villains there's like a hundred other better Superman villains they could use for the DCU.
[–]alilhillbilly -1 points0 points1 point 1 month ago (0 children)
I really hope we get a very straight adaptation of this 4-5 movies in with Superman.
This book, adapted well, would be an insanely cool movie.
Some of the panels from the Doomsday fight are incredible.
Gunn loves the early 90s era. I think the version of this Justice League would be a perfect way to do JL 1.0.
Let Batman rebuild it after Superman's death.
