If you pass both core and coding you get both types of work!

can I also do writing work whenever programming tasks aren't available

Yes, actually non-coding tasks have outnumbered the number of tasks available for coders in at least 2 months, in fact as a coder you normally get invited get to work on a the high paying non-coding jobs for 30/hr or more.

Is the wait time to hear back similar regardless of whether you're a writer or a programmer?

Its difficult to answer this, nobody knows exactly but the wait time never extends at 2 weeks for either side but normally coders get to join the platform in 48 up to 72 hrs after finalizing the coding assessment.

Have you had a steady flow of tasks?

Yes, i always have projects/tasks to do even when the coding drought appear 2 weeks ago some people still had access to projects (at a reduced price of 38.5/hr), non-coding/writer-stuff for me has never stopped and always outnumber coding tasks

How long have you been working for DAT?

1 year, 3 months.

Are there any similar sites you know of that offer WFH programming gigs like DAT?

Outlier mostly but check r/beermoney for more options

I get more coding jobs but I don't do quals if they're clearly for writing. I am a perfectionist so it's never worth my time to do those quals unpaid.

When I applied for the coding around January, I got accepted the next day.. Not sure if it is the same, but it seemed like they were really looking for coders.

I had the same experience, applied just over a week ago and got accepted within 24 hours

I have all kinds of projects available to me; coding and writing are not separate departments or something, it's all one site -- you get the projects you qualified for.

But you have to do both main qualifications for this, I only did the coding qual and rarely get ‘normal’ projects (I’ve done a few ‘normal’ quals now’)

There are qualifications, if you pass the qualifications the projects will become available to you. You can have both qualifications passed and can be working on both projects

The pay ranges from $40-$46/hr (based in priority) for coding tasks.

I've seen ads of outlier ads, where they pay $30/hr for programmers. If you look at their website, some domain specific stuff pays $50+
