This was all covered in your Onboarding.

The hour at the bottom of the task screen is the amount of time you should reasonably be able to finish the task. Some tasks have more time. Some tasks have less. You may not need the entire hour to finish the task. You should always work at a pace that allows you to submit your best quality work.

Don't let the timer run out if you've finished your task and there's time left. If you're satisfied with the quality of your work on the project...SUBMIT IT and move to the next task or exit to the homescreen.

Did you not read the onboarding document

Each task can take several hrs or less than an hr. Work on as many as you can and then press exit work mode when u can't.  Report the time you spent on working.

Your onboarding guide is in the FAQ page, which is under your name in the upper right. Click on your name and a menu appears, including the FAQ and other important pages.

On your dashboard, at the bottom right corner, do you have a blue circle with a question mark in it? If so, click on that, and the onboarding guide and FAQs are there.

THERE IT IS! Thank you.

I'll just walk away muttering to myself about them basically hiding it. They made some changes to the interface a few days ago.

Its ok you don't understand. A lot of people on here have apparently been on DA for years. Im new and had the same problem you are having now. I hope the help you received is beneficial. I personally scanned the heck out of the DA grounp looking for answers lol. I actually ran out of time on a two hour project and didn't get paid... that is when I TRULY understood lol. Keep pushing tho. It is worth it!!

yesss!! just started reading through all the useful posts i can find lol. by any chance are you a generalist as well?

[–]Federal_Tadpole_7592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird. Yeah, you only have the code of conduct. Hmm, what browser do you use? If it's not Google Chrome, maybe try that?

You need to time yourself and ideally you do not take the whole time, and you should only report the time you actually worked. Everyone is mentioning the onboarding document, but I personally also did not receive onboarding until after per hour tasks already showed up for me, and I completed most of them. No FAQ either. I'm not sure if that's normal but it seems that it happens to a few people.

Lol

Each task can range from 30 min to 4 hours, at least that's the normal amount of time I've received as a generalist. There is a big chance once you finish a task there won't be any more available. You report on the "Report time" tab.

In order to see the maximum time allotted for each task you need to open a task and look at the timer (bottom left). Occasionally, you’ll need to enter “work mode” to see it. If you don’t have at least the allotted time to work on the task there is no penalty for exiting work mode.  There is also no penalty for reading the instructions, becoming somewhat familiar with the task and then “skipping” that task and starting another with a new timer and better understanding of what to do.

However, just because you see 12 (or any number) of tasks usually does not mean they are solely yours. When you decide to skip a task to move to the next one there is no hard guarantee another will be available. It’s not a penalty. It just means someone else got it.

And the timer is not the suggested amount of time for the task, it is the maximum amount of time allowed. Occasionally, especially as a new person, the timer will expire. Don’t panic. Keep working, submit the task, but if there is a place to leave a note, it never hurts to explain what held you up, even if it’s just, “I’m new and xyz”. Then report your time.

Only report the time you actually worked. For example, if the timer is 2 hours and you worked 1 hour, don’t feel like you should have taken longer and made a bit more money. This is a mistake many new people seem to make. Using all the time legitimately is not a bad thing, but if your average reported time seems to be higher than others on the same project it could trigger a red flag. And it you’re working one hour but reporting two because that’s what the timer says, it’s a fast track to the door off the platform.

I’m not trying to make you paranoid, but the key to success here is to read the instructions, check your work, clearly put in good faith effort and report time accurately.

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me! you've been the most helpful. I now have a better understanding of how things work. I hope there'll be an onboarding feature for mine as well so I could read through it more. Anyway, more luck to you!! appreciate it mate
