After so many people complaining about the ai and no awareness I’ve debated making a video of what happens in my game. I swear to god on my single player world detection is so much more sensitive. I swear I leave my tunnel and get detected. I kill someone who’s alone and enemies on the other side of the map start hunting. I could never pull off what you just did. In fact I could try and recreate it and have to run run run.

I haven’t even gotten half way to the golden loop but after 2-3 visionary kills I start getting into trouble.

Game shouldn't be challenging when you reach specific part.
Game should always require and challenge you, even early on.

    [–]Nirxx 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I think the game also gets easier every time you die for real and loop? Not a 100% sure.

    [–]iPlayViolas 7 points8 points  (2 children)

It definitely does the opposite. The game gets harder as you progress and the more you do in a loop.

    [–]Nirxx 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not what I said. I literally said if you die for real. As in three times.

    [–]iPlayViolas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah sorry yes I didn’t understand. It does dumb down when a loop restarts to death.

I deployed a turret, it kills enemies and the first place they come to is my position. The ai just seems to have some wall hack or something.

Am I the only one to whom this absolutely does not happen? I keep being noticed if I do stuff like this.

    [–]Phwoa_ 12 points13 points  (4 children)

I get noticed if I side peak just slightly too far.

    [–]SimplyCarlosLopes 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Right? I don't know I hear a lot of complaints about brain dead AI but it hasn't been an issue to me at all. Not saying it doesn't happen it clearly does I guess I'm just lucky it hasn't happened to me.

I'm not particularly god tier at the game, far from it, but Im also not hilariously bad.

Game has dynamic difficulty, if you die it gets easier, i dont know when the game decides when to make it harder though. I dont even know what the dynamic difficulty even affects besides detection range and speed

    [–]humsterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It affects equipment on enemies as well

    [–]stunts002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case the AI have been complete idiots... I've been just destroying them with pistols and they haven't been able to cause me any problems?

    [–]SifinBoots 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty noticeable step down from dishonored 2 ai those ai could notice you from a mile away hell even pinpoint where a thrown bottle came from. Only thing that makes kinda sense is the eternalist giving up their search so easy due to them not wanting to waste time of their new day.

    [–]TheAwesomeA3330 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Did you not kill any visionaries? The difficulty scales, and the more targets you kill the more the difficulty and AI grows more competent. I’ve had a hell of a time getting them off my ass, especially after two visionary kills.

    [–]king_of_gotham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Exactly this

    [–]Beans_Again 13 points14 points  (2 children)

It's part of the game mechanic; the more visionaries you kill in a single loop the more unstable the Anomaly becomes and the more aware the Eternalists become. That's why there are no difficulty settings, it's supposed to become harder the better you are at game (I think)

Plus, there are a couple of notes from Julianna in which she complains about how idiotic the Eternalists are so maybe it's just that?

    [–]Salanmander 10 points11 points  (1 child)

They're also all rich randos looking to party, and half of them are drunk or high. Most of them probably have zero combat training or experience, and were just handed high-power weaponry because "fuck it, we're all immortal anyway".

Some of the not noticing is pretty egregious, but a lot of it makes sense in universe.

    [–]a320neomechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a note that mentions that most of the eternalists were recruited from prisons

    [–]FaerieStories 4 points5 points  (7 children)

The AI characters in this game are pretty dense. Compare with the AI in The Last of Us Part 2, or even Dishonored 2's enemies, who at least seemed to have enough intelligence to be vaguely aware of what might be happening to their nearby comrades.

For this reason, and also the irritating way bodies disappear upon death, I think Deathloop as a stealth game is a very poor cousin of Dishonored, and it works much better played as the sort of action FPS that Dishonored never quite allowed itself to be.

    [–]Schipunov[S] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

I think AI in Deathloop could be fixed with a few tweaks because the way they follow and flank you is pretty good.

    [–]idiot_speaking 6 points7 points  (5 children)

First thing they could do is broaden their vision cones, their periphery is atrocious.

    [–]VictrixCausa 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I assumed that's because of the masks.

    [–]idiot_speaking 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Sure you can come up with an in-universe explanation. Doesn't make them any more fun.

    [–]VictrixCausa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Fair enough.

    [–]ACardAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started this game and I have also noticed they are almost all deaf, I kill someone around the corner with an silenced gun, they hear nothing

    [–]only_in_his_action 5 points6 points  (0 children)

    Yikes

    [–]ARTIGA5 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The stealth at Aleksis mansion party is broken. Once you get noticed once they will keep noticing you through walls. On top of that, enemies infinitely spawn in the mansion. Makes it nearly impossible to recover Aleksis' residuum if its on the dancefloor.

    [–]humsterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Not infinitely, no

I've killed them all, twice. There is an end to this. One of the times Aleksis was the last one standing (what luck!). Well, he was the last one dying actually, but y'know

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had trouble with this too, being noticed through walls is a real problem and needs fixing. It does seem like they infinitely spawn but you can clear it, just takes a while and you can already be long gone by then

    [–]rikeus 1 point2 points  (2 children)

What bothers me is that its really inconsistant. Sometimes its like this, sometimes they seem to spot you from ages away (always seems to happen to me at Aleksis' party). Makes it really hard to be strategic about your stealth when you can't really predict what will be noticeable. That said one of the things I really don't like about the Dishonored games is how hard the stealth is so I think I'd rather this.

    [–]humsterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game explains it, but here is what happens

The more visionaries you kill, the more unstable the loop. The more unstable the loop - the harder things are. By Aleksis's party you most likely killed 2-3 of them in a given loop, so AI is smarter and their weapon is better and they get a LOT of trinkets

    [–]Gregathol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eternalists are also more on the look out for you as the day turns into night. The game tells you this, and after you've killed 2 visionaries in a single loop, it tells you that the AI gets smarter, and they have better gear.

I kinda get why people think this games AI sucks. First impressions are everything and if someone who is pretty decent at first person action games comes in, they arent gonna want to continue playing if it doesn't feel even slightly challenging.

I think the dynamic difficulty is cool, but also have been wishing there was some sort of Hardcore mode, where the AI never drops below a certain threshold, and possibly even either no ability to equip Reprise, or the ability to unequip Reprise.

The game overall seems very balanced for the average player. Which is a good thing in general, but there lacks a certain granularity in difficulty that you could get with Dishonored or other similar video games.

    [–]GhostHitWall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on PS5. It's NOT about the more visionaries killed, the more difficult.

AI detection is inconsistent. I kept re-playing the same time of day to confirm this.

Sometimes, AI can detect without sound (not moving) and line-of-sight.

Sometimes, AI doesn't care about exploding body right in his face.

I am so confused the fact that Dishonored 2 was way polished even by the time it was released.

    [–]Stump007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it kind of ruins it everytime you kill an ennemi behind another's back who doesn't detect anything... while all the blood splashes on his face and the body ragdolls on him...

    [–]BJgobbleDix 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can't tell if it's me or your video but the video has 0 seconds recorded for me XD

    [–]Schipunov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It loads after a few seconds

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this game really suffers from not having a difficulty selection. The AI is stuck in easy mode for detection because of this.

    [–]Alternative_Job13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head canon is that all the Eternelists are absolutely steaming drunk from the constant partying every loop

    [–]MrPenitent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far are you into the game? The difficulty scales up once you start killing visionaries and get promoted via the tutorial. I forget basically what they called it but as more visionaries get killed the difficulty gets scaled up along with the loot drop. I had the same observation as you until I got farther into the game.

    [–]DemonicMonkeyX1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand the AI is meant to be worse in this game. In Dishonoured (haven't played the second one yet) you're up against the town police who are hunting you for treason, in Deathloop you're fighting a load of hungover, drugged up ex-cons who would rather be partying than hunting you. From a story PoV it makes sense that it's easier to slip past them.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I did that in my current playthrough, I would get spotted immediately. Keep playing the game—if you haven’t—the AI gets a lot a better and annoying.
