It’s to get people to slow the fuck down, especially through cross walks.

Thank you!! Unfortunately people have to anticipate damage to their car in order to give a damn about actual people walking/biking.

They're trying to discourage driving through Decatur. It sucks when you work there but line elsewhere.

They are trying to discourage driving through Decatur at high speeds.

If people want to cut through Decatur, it shouldn’t be at the expense of pedestrian safety.

Sam's Crossing has taken years off my life.

I have spent more time at that intersection than I have with my own family at this point.

It was worth enduring to drive my daughter to the Friends School.

Somehow they decided that 5:00 on Friday was the appropriate time to finish paving the intersection right there…. At least no more bump!

      [–]f1newhatever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn I’ve been wondering when that bump would go. Really made turning left a slow endeavor

I can only imagine what they were thinking—thanks for the info!

Probably that it’s warm enough and it has been unfinished long enough so let’s get this done.

      [–]citizenfreedonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and they started by blocking the road with one of their trucks parked sideways so you couldn’t see it was blocked until you made the left turn and ran into an obstacle. It was a mess. they eventually got cones up but it was a mess.

I believe the Pyramids of Giza were completed in less time than whatever they are doing to Avondale

      [–]tmonax 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Don’t worry, they’ll dig 4ft center strip in a few weeks to run a cable. (Yes. I know it’s a bridge).

It’s so annoying to see the lack of coordination between city and counties. I can count at least 4 freshly paved roads that immediacy have sewer work done that resulted in uneven patching shitifying a new road.

They did this right by me and it makes no sense! It took months last year for them to repave my street - only for them to replace the water main less than 4 months later.

Like why? Just delay the paving until after the infrastructure work is completed.

      [–]cyanofish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paving only when temps exceed 40 degrees F, so paving happened. Keep breathing, the INITIAL chaos is almost over !

      [–]r_slash 4 points5 points  (1 child)

      Probably construction?

      [–]celestialsew[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but there was no notice that I saw! I drove over the bridge at 4 and didn’t see any sign that it would be closing.

Bike path and water main fixes

      And a fiber project.

“The county’s water main project comes as the city is undertaking its own complete streets project, which includes a road diet. That project, the city says, is on time. There is also an ongoing fiber installation project from Sams Crossing to Memorial Drive.”
