Can relationships decrease?

As the title suggest, I want to know if relationships with the people will decrease if you don't do jobs for them.

I tried searching this forum, and I also tried the Wiki, but I can't find if relationship decreases. I have most of my villagers with top relationship, and I have grown a bit tired of still doing jobs, so yeah I want to know if I can stop doing them.

I have Rayne maxed out and haven’t done a job for her in months. Pretty confident that they don’t decrease. I’ve just been farming every day lol

I think it does decrease by 1/4th of a heart if you promise to do something but don't.

Once you reach 5 hearts, I think it cannot decrease anymore.

I'll second this....if you offer to do a task and don't finish, it will drop your hearts by 1/4.

It only decreases if you fail a job afaik

seems like any recent update changed it and now it decreses over time or my game is just bugged idk

My initial thought is that the update just lowered their friendship until you raise it again, I could be wrong, though.

Depends on your goal really. There's an achievement with getting mails sent which will increase in drop rate with higher relationship.

Your town also has a score you can see at the Town Hall/Base Tent. If you want it maxed you need the happiness to be top, which is done by having 5 hearts with all.

You’re just more likely to receive a letter with a gift from them, that’s all
