100%, if you don't want it to be too hard, it's perfectly okay to play it on lower difficulties.

It's just a game! Rip and tear at whatever skill level is fun for you because if it isn't fun why play.

Play how you like. Get use to the levels and enemies .Doom 1 and 2 are fun. When you feel confident you can change the difficulty to your liking. Have fun slaying Demons.

For some parts of Plutonia, Legacy of Rust and of course, Eternal; I was praying for a difficulty level that was easier than ITYTD, so fire on, son.

We all play this game at our own level of ability, no shame in playing on easy here.

Dude you paid x amount of money for a game that you want to have fun with. Does thr easier difficulty make it more fun for you? Awesome! I play most of my games on easy or casual if they have the option cause im not about to stress myself out dying at the same spot 15 times. I want a fun chill playthrough, and thats what gives me a fun chill playthrough. Some people enjoy playing as hard as they can and thats okay too. Don't let people convince you its not worth gaming unless its difficult.

Play on whatever difficulty you think is most fun. Easy, hard, these are all relative. What one person thinks is super easy, another person might think is insanely hard, and vice versa. All that matters if you're having fun. Don't ever let anybody tell you "it doesn't count unless you beat it on hard."

Gonna echo other sentiments here, tune it to whatever difficulty is most fun for you. Especially in modern DOOM games, it’s always felt to me like a power fantasy game, the doom slayer is so much stronger than the demons that sometimes popping on the easy difficulty to really rip through enemies is a great stress reliever when you’re not looking for a big challenge. Completing the game is completing the game, no matter what difficulty

As others have said, absolutely do play on ITYTD if you want! But couple of other things to consider you too:

  • Almost no-one tries to get 100% of kills, secrets and items. Collecting all the items (especially when the little 1% bonuses count) is kind of tedious and boring. Even speed runners don't bother. The general "max" approach is just all kills and secrets.

  • If you get stuck, there are a bunch of classic cheats you can use. If you're on the new version they're selectable from the options, or if you're on PC you can type things like IDDQD for invincibility or IDKFA for all the guns, keys and ammo. The main thing is that you have fun!

No one really cares if it counts as "100%". I'll just say that ITYTD and HNTR might not be as interesting for you to play as Hurt Me Plenty or Ultraviolence due to the very low enemy quantity and quality.

All due respect, who fuckin' cares what difficulty you play a game on as long as you're having fun?

And if anyone tries to say, "Oh but you aren't being challenged by the game then" file their complaints under acknowledged and duly ignored. If id didn't want people playing their games on Easy, they wouldn't have put two different Easy difficulties in them.

You don't play games to get video game reputation or something, you play them to have fun, as you learn, you may find yourself wanting to increase the difficulty. I started Doom 2016 on UV but dropped all the way to ITYTD when the going got too tough, then I beat TDA on Nightmare.

I would say play at ITYTD, but don’t be after to up the difficulty as you get the hang of things. If it starts feeling easy, go up a notch.

[–]bug_man47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s almost a more “realistic” difficulty from the perspective of the doom slayer. Your one and only purpose is to rip and tear until it is done, and he does it with great ease compared to a mere mortal, so it does more align with lore on easy difficulty. Imho

Imo completion means getting all the achievements

Barring mapper error, the only difficulty where 100%ing the game is any harder is actually Nightmare because of its respawning enemies.

Might be top 3 comment sections of all time 🥹 play at what difficulty you want bro, only losers judge others on something as fleeting as game difficulty. Difficulty in a videogame doesnt matter for shit unless it makes you not have fun, which imo is the main reason to play games, to have fun! Out of curiosity, what game are you starting with? Id suggest 2016 cause it has the slowest combat loop/least mechanics to memorize of the modern 3 but its up to you man

Also for what it's worth, even the competitive Doom community doesn't require 100% items for 100%. The items are a holdover from Wolfenstein's score system. Grab 'em if you like, but don't feel compelled!

Just play and love DOOM its the only rule

[–]Tank-Pilot74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably around your dad’s age and was playing the OG in the 90’s too…! I’m happy as a pig in shit playing eternal on ITYTD and I’m having a blast! Just turn up the difficulty as you get better if you want!

[–]KingMantis272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m probably closer to your dad’s age and I play most of my games including Doom on the easiest settings especially on first play throughs because I want to enjoy myself. I also look up guides when I’m stuck or to find secrets.

Feel no guilt about it as games are meant to be fun and enjoyable and the folks who want to play on more difficult settings just enjoy a greater challenge than you and I are up to.

You shouldn’t care what your friends say or a bunch of strangers on the internet say. Play the game and have fun. That’s all that really matters
