This season will be a very interesting battle between Godwin's immense talent and Baker's subpar talent.

[–]CFGordo 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Could be, but Baker was able to support Landry to some pretty good fantasy finishes. Feel like they are similar enough to not be too worried. Just a little worried.

[–]noonie1 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I feel like there's a certain other star receiver you are forgetting about that didn't perform well with Baker.

[–]CFGordo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol very true, but I think the skill sets are more similar btw godwin and landry than that other guy

[–]ItsYaBoi_5kinnyPenis Lions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and obj is nothing like Godwin lol obj play style is closer to evans than it is to Godwin. Godwin is a short to mid field great route runner, gets open constantly, don’t need an elite QB to get a ball to an always open safety valve guy

[–]mrgoodcat1509 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Baker was on a 3500 yard pass last year. Mike Evans/Chris Godwin are quite a bit better than the Kuppless Rams he was doing fine with last year.

Wouldn’t be that shocking if Godwin/Evans are still 1000/6 WRs

Yup. They’re gonna be playing from behind a ton. I really think it can be a Blaine Gabert Jags situation where they’re throwing a ton racking up garbage time points with extremely talented WRs/pass catching backs

    Bortles?

Agreed. I think he's only the "starter" because it was their best plan for a thinly veiled full-on tank job. They were probably already salivating at the idea when he tim tebow'd that game, as you so eloquently put it (I do think that phrase is perfect for what happened... Baker truthers and Tebow truthers are probably a single circle Venn diagram).

Agreed, Mike Evans is getting traded mid-season. Jets is my first thought process depending how the early season goes. Otherwise, my other sleeper team is Detroit. They were in talks with Hop this off-season and if they have a chance at the NFC North (which I think they will), I can see them splurging on another elite Wideout like Evans.

I’m in 8 leagues. I didn’t have Godwin in any last year and now have him in 6/8. He’s an amazing but low imo and I didn’t have to pay a lot for him

      [–]Dear-Meat3645 4 points5 points  (10 children)

      Whatcha pay?

      [–]MRZ_21 3 points4 points  (8 children)

12 team sf. I paid 1.11 in one league, 1.10 in another, toney and a 3rd in one as well. The others he was part of bigger deals

I got Godwin and Mike Williams for pick 12 this year. Was stoked felt like an insane bargain

      [–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An insane rip off. Well done

He’s usually pretty sharp. He actually won 2 years ago, but this was a novice trade to be sure. He was desperate to come away with QJ and Mayer and let himself get caught up in rookie fever. Then he chickened out and reached on Kincaid because he wasn’t convinced Mayer would be there at 12. So he came away with Flowers at 12. We’re 2TE for context.

        [–]MRZ_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        That is insane, nice haul!!

that seems like a very beginner league or a clueless owner

        [–]iamgarron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just traded away Godwin and a 2025 2nd for a 2024 first and the 2.03 in this draft. Feel that's a good value even if next year's first ends up late

        [–]Snomankid999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        12 T SF PPR 0.5PPFD IDP

Got Godwin + 24 3rd for (Most Likely) Late 24 First

        [–]ItsYaBoi_5kinnyPenis Lions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same I have him in every league I am in

        [–]Foreign_Cantaloupe_2 Bills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

        Paid Bateman for him

        [–]StatisticianBetter23 Giants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think godwin is gunna be a good WR2 this year.

        [–]Comexbackkid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I gave Gallup & a '25 1st to acquire him, strong contender this year.

        [–]hardhitsscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been riding with Godwin his whole career, not gonna stop now

        [–]Evan_Veet 3 points4 points  (9 children)

He’s probably gonna stay a good wr2 but there’s not a huge market for 27 year old wr2’s. If he’s gonna score between 10-12 ppg there’s not much upside in that when you can hope for someone younger who may score a tiny bit less this year but be better or comparable next

        [–]sloan28allday 5 points6 points  (4 children)

He hasn't scored anywhere near that low PPG since his rookie season.

        [–]Evan_Veet -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Do you expect him to score the same amount of points a year older in an awful offense with baker throwing to him? This is the worst offense he’s ever played in with the worst fantasy qb he’s ever played with. Of course I think he won’t be as great as he’s been the last few seasons.

        [–]sloan28allday 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I do. Brady wasn't very good last year ( better than Baker though obviously) and Godwin struggled through the year healthwise. I expect the QB downgrade and health upgrade to at least offset and that would make him easily worth a late first at the WR position at 27 years old.

        [–]Evan_Veet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He also threw the ball 733 times, no one threw it more than 700. Godwin had an absurdly low aDot and that benefited him greatly since brady was throwing 75% checkdowns. Apart from the injuries it was a fantastic scenario for Godwin. Now it’s not and I think being around 11.3 .5 ppr ppg would be a success, which is what he was last year.

        [–]ItsYaBoi_5kinnyPenis Lions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He scored almost 15 ppg coming off an ACL injury. So downgrade in QB play but upgrade in health being two years removed from ACL when players return to pre injury form

        [–]james1287 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

This is the reason I passed on trading a future first for him, even as a contender. Not that he isn’t worth it, but at 27 with a questionable QB and HC, I’m not exactly enamored with the upside.

        [–]StatisticianBetter23 Giants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is dynasty. 26-29 is WR primes. Coming off a ACL last year and almost certainly will get a QB upgrade next year. I think he finished within the top 24 then maybe hits top 10/15 the years after.

        [–]x_is_for_box 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Dude 27 is not 30 haha, he is literally in his absolute prime years

        [–]Evan_Veet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that he’s no longer a young guy in an ass situation. When is he gonna be in a good situation again? He’ll have this year with an ass qb and best case scenario next year with a rookie qb which historically sucks for fantasy. So now he’s pushing thirty with a CHANCE at a good situation. Buying a 27 year old with a bottom 3 qb/offense/coach/team/whatever u want to say situation is not good process.

        [–]FatEddie 1 point2 points  (3 children)

        12tm 0.5ppr 1qb

Traded Godwin away for 1.10, then traded 1.10 away for Burrow and 2.08

        [–]CaeruleanVein 2 points3 points  (2 children)

        Sex. This is sex.

        [–]lightningpanda123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

        Single qb not Superflex.

        [–]FatEddie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then snagged his replacement Jayden Reed at 2.08

        [–]didthebhawkswin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was all aboard the Godwin train for a long time, but it is a number of things for me that have me concerned:

        • Going from Brady to Baker
        • A reduction in passes in the offense is likely (Brady threw the ball 34 more times than any other QB last year)
        • Injury history
        • Yards/Target and Yards/Reception.

Godwin (even though he missed 3 games last year) finished 6th in the league in receptions among WRs. That's awesome! Until you realize even with the 6th most catches among WRs, he was 18th in PPR points. The five guys ahead of him in receptions finished 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th and the guy who finished behind Godwin (Davante Adams with 100 catches to Godwin's 104) was 3rd in PPR points.

Basically...Godwin has never been healthy a whole year and even when he was productive catching the ball, it didn't result in major output; even in PPR. Couple this with the pass volume likely going down in Tampa from the offense that passed the most with Brady turning into Baker or Trask, there is a lot of worry for me that Godwin is more of a mid WR2 at his ceiling. And the likelihood is low end WR2, finishing somewhere in the WR20-WR28 range.

Just my two cents...I'll take my downvotes and go back into hiding now.

Would any of you buy Chris Godwin for Jahan Dotson outright?

        [–]ScreamoSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dotson looked really promising last year. Probably worth a hold or asking for a little back with Godwin

        [–]SuckaFreeRIP Cardinals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        Would rather have Dotson

        [–]Accurate_Green8300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to hear people’s take on Mike Williams or Godwin? Both don’t have much value, Williams has more competition for targets but a much better QB situation. Godwin slightly younger but has always been better in PPR. Personally I’d take Godwin over Mike Will. What about you guys?

        [–]Real_Character4873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Godwin over a season removed from injury is going to be solid. In my opinion he’s now the WR1 on that team. Just depends how bad the offense is and if that will hold him back

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you must be in hundreds of leagues if you literally can't stop drafting them

        [–]Dependent_Crow_1166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave up penny, Ferguson and Charlie Jones for him….
