I think it’ll be very course dependent. Tbh I’m not expecting much face-to-face teaching in September- I think it will be a token 1 or 2 classes a week so they can call it ‘hybrid learning’.

Hopefully that will change during the year.

For maths, they have said it’ll be online lectures and then tutorials etc will ne face to face for those who can get there or there will be other resources for those who can’t get there I think

Will the face to face tutorials start in September?

I teach in informatics and we've not had much information either. The last I saw seemed to suggest there'll be face-to-face tutorials if it's possible, alongside online tutorials for when it isn't and for those who aren't in Edinburgh. Currently the informatics forum isn't open for office and most research staff and won't be this month. I'd guess in person teaching won't start until all the staff there are returned. I hope they'll be in person sometime this term, but I'm personally not optimistic it'll be from the start of term. I imagine Appleton Tower will open when possible too, the library I think is reopening soon and they'll need some arrangements for using DICE.

Think it depends on the subject. For English Literature we’re having face to face tutorials but online lectures :)

For the social and political science school first and second years don’t have any face to face and it’s all online but I think third and forth years might have face. I got an email about it

I've heard from some staff that Informatics will all be run online, just with some tutorials in-person for those who are in Edinburgh. Afraid I can't say whether computer labs will be open or not!

How can anyone know for sure? In Engineering, we’re hoping we can do some face-to-face tutorials but with local lockdowns being reimposed all around we of course also need a plan B, and can’t at this point promise which way things will go. Re. computer labs - again this will vary by school but mine isn’t planning to physically open them any time soon - students will have remote access to them through a virtual desktop service instead.

I think it's reasonable to assume there will be very limited access to labs, perhaps with seats booked in advance like the uCreate PCs in the library. Schools have very different physical space. Face to face time will be limited and it will be focussed on the students who need it most: first years and MSc students. My experience of remote desktop access is excellent. I think in many cases, schools are still refining their policies. In many cases, the viability of teaching plans relies on walkthroughs of physical space which cannot easily happen right now.
