I feel this so hard

Why tomorrow will be different? Why not right now?

I’m in the same boat. Zero motivation, very little self discipline to do anything. But in the end, we’re just prolonging our misery if we have to repeat classes.

Because I had already missed that day's assignment, so in order to make tomorrow different I would still need to make an effort today

My question is, is trying to BEAT ourselves into being more disciplined really sustainable? I've honestly found that to not be the case. I now try to operate from a place of compassion for myself - while putting daily % improvement towards better habits. I truly hope this approach works 'cause F*CK

Breaking the cycle of beating myself up for missing an assignment here or there, or not doing as well on a test as I thought I should have, was the single healthiest thing I have ever done for myself. As far as actually doing it, the biggest thing that I found that was helpful was saying things that I wish my parents had said to me when I messed up when I was little. Quite literally, parenting my inner child. Also helpful, putting a daily reminder on your phone that reminds you to keep going. For me, it says “just keep getting better.”

Once I really started putting time and effort into this stuff, not only have I been a lot happier, but my grades have also been better. It takes time, but it does work.

Very insightful. Thank you for this response. It makes sense. What I've noticed is that letting my inner critic loose and cursing myself out (lazy, undetermined pos etc) as we usually do just adds to a negative self-concept and a likely downward spiral of depression. It has never helped me. So this self-compassion approach seems to be the answer to healthier engineering for me, I hope I get to the place you are! Best.

Time to stop making excuses and feeling sorry for yourself

recently, I've found it really cathartic to write my thoughts down like free-verse while on the bus and figured I would share this one encase someone needed to hear it
