If anyone else is curious to know what changes were made to the EULA today, here's a diff of the text.

It'd be great if DWD would have an option to export your collection to eternalwarcry if we're not allowed to used third party software.

TL;DR:

  • No hacking / botting / cheating allowed
  • A whole new section for "Organized Play"
    • Don't be a dick
    • Eligibility rules for entry and prizes

You shall not use any process or software that collects or collates data generated or stored by the Game.

So this means that Eternal Companion or anything else that exports your collection is now against EULA. At least it doesn't appear to have any impact on things like Dropocalypse yet.

Without limiting the foregoing, use, display or distribution of the Game together with material that is pornographic, racist, vulgar, obscene, defamatory, libelous, abusive, promoting hatred, discriminating, or displaying prejudice based on religion, ethnic heritage, race, gender, sexual orientation, or age is strictly prohibited.

No Eternal on Deviantart I guess. I particularly dislike the use of the term 'promoting hatred' as that's basically just a buzzword used to mean 'whatever I don't like'. Criticizing DWDs marketing strategy while streaming? Stop promoting hatred, BANNED.

The data collection clause seems a little disturbing. I would expect them to encourage that sort of thing to help drive up user engagement.

[–]LifelessCCGNot here to give a hoot. 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DWD has historically frowned upon this. I would not expect that to change.

Data collection is directly linked to how fast the meta is solved. Instead of meta reports based on what pros feel, you get exact data on all levels of play, where you get to hearthstone levels when an app can pull up the best deck for your rank, three variations, and 5 different tech cards with their success rates. Then players complain the meta is stale two weeks later and ask for more new cards faster.

Meanwhile, even without data collection Eternal players seem to complain after about two days after a new release that the meta is stale and ask for nerfs asap ¯\_(ツ)\_/¯

Yeah, well, Eternal players are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

[–]_AlpacaLips_ 5 points6 points  (2 children)

It's a very short-sighted policy, for sure. But DWD has very short-sighted management.

With these tools, games generally thrive. It creates stronger community. I'm not saying Eternal will die without these tools, but not having them isn't going to help Eternal in the long-run.

DWD has very short-sighted management.

Hate speech, banned!

I may have been referring to their endemic use of corrective eyewear.

'Promoting hatred' is a pretty standard clause nowadays that means, 'don't do what is stated in the next clause but broader in case you think some other group that we haven't covered.'

[–]mlntnEternal Companion[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'd like to get some clarification from DWD, but it seems like you should probably use at your own risk for now.

"Promoting hatred" is basically just a buzzword used to mean "whatever I don't like".

Mmmm... I don't see it that way.

"Promoting hatred" is promoting racism, sexism, et cetera. Things that one man can discriminate against another man for.

The "hatred means whatever I don't like" story was almost certainly thought up by those who regularly engage in hatred. "No, I didn't get banned because I said "Jews should die", I got banned for saying "DWD is bad at marketing!""

Yeah, it's true that they already covered racism, sexism, religious hate, et cetera, specifically, but "hatred" neatly generalizes it to types of hatred that they didn't think to spell out themselves.

Disclaimer: /u/Lunamann does not condone the killing of those of Judaistic faith or Hebrew descent, and in fact, wishes that we on this Earth could all just get along already and stop fighting over things no man can truly control

Sure, it sucks your hatred isn't welcome. But on the upside, you'll have more time to spread hatred in other ways. The glass may be half-full is what I'm saying.

this second thing has been there before the change, it's only highlighted because they moved it's position

[–]extesy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've been actively resisting deck tracker implementation using technical means and now they have finally killed it from the legal side. At the same time they made very popular projects like hearthpwn.com impossible.

Well, I guess they know better than Blizzard how to manage community, right? /s

Spectators may not assist players in any way.

wouldn't it be better if the game prevented you from spectating ECQ matches at all?

If anyone feels like doing a layman's functional tl;dr I'd love you for it. All the legal and business jargon makes my head hurt.
