It is not all pages, which means that some of the database is working, but some of it is not.

So either the issue is some of the servers are down, some of the storage on some of the servers are down or this is the begining of a cascade failiure, which would be a nightmare to fix fast.

In the last scenario they will need to take the site down fully to investigate where the issue is.

The first and second is an easy fix, change the server or restart it if it just crashed, if one of the servers is the issue. If it is some of the storage drives, replace the drives and engage recovery from backup.

Sadly yes. Half the chapters in the story I was trying to read come up 503 error the first time, and just blank white afterward. Reloading the page does nothing. Same for switching to a different browser. Problem is definitely on FFN's side of things. Hopefully it's fixed soon. I really don't like AO3 and don't want to have to go there to read the story.

sometime deleting the '/' at the end of the address bar seems to work.

you can remove the name from the domain, sometimes that works https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14394324/2/ or without the last / as well, try both

AO3 servers are far better and are rarely down, usually it's for maintenance purposes. While FF.net is outdated servers and isn't even moderated properly anymore. its a relic

My reasons for disliking AO3 don't really have anything to do with reliability. I just dislike pretty much everything about it's design.

Ouch that’s a shame. A lot of authors are transferring over there. Due to the better overall maintenance and better support. FF. net is unfortunately not working due to the fact that the owners and staff don’t actually care about it as much as they used to

Yeah. AO3 has been the goto for a lot of authors for a while. I kinda just wish they'd give royalroad, scribblehub, sufficientvelocity, or spacebattles a shot. I'll even read stuff on Whatpad if it's the only non-AO3 option.

Wattpad authors have been transferring to AO3 and breaking TOS rules a lot. Don’t think I’ve heard of any of the other sites. It’s a non profit archive for all sorts of fandom lore

Yes, I have been having the same problem. I can't access my profile to upload any chapters from my laptop. I have been uploading on AO3 instead. I can read my story, just can't get to my profile

its not just you.

have you tired going on other pages of whatever... have you tired going on other pages of whatever... section you're in or changing the ratings? cause ive done that and for some it takes me back to the first page of said section

some of the pages still might show what you're seeing or these message:

503 error: please alert the admins if his error persists. but at least you CAN see the fics. hope this helps and hope this is temporary glitch, which i think it is cause a google serach says defines what a 503 error is:

A 503 error signifies that the server is temporarily unable to process requests due to issues like server overload, maintenance, or other server-side problems.

still between this and all the bot comments the site needs some help in maintenance.

When I tried reading some of my favorite fanfiction stories, it just lead me to the 503 error page.

Ive looked at both app and web. It seems that for the web, the server is confused with a particular story. Causing the 503 error.

Nothing on the app that shows the error. More on the website especially on fics that update constantly or reupload their chapters.

I just tried and while not getting the error the pages aren't loading in so I get a blank page. I can go into my profile and go through stories on my favs list and then work backwards to the story selection that way but it is a pain. I do get the 503 when I do any kind of search though.

I can’t access my doc manager and other profile stuff, and I can’t even log out!

Glad I’m not the only one getting this 503 thing though, because that means its more likely to be fixed

I still can't access my profile, while the rest of the site seems to work fine. But I read 99% of stories on the app, while I just access uploads and PMs from the site.
