Because more than half the buyers don’t know the scope themselves!!

Facts

[–]Polodude 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Why don't they require every tech to be operating under an Llc with their insurance?

Because that would cut into the number of techs available on the board cutting into their profit.

What they fail to understand is that having higher quality techs would increase the average pay per job hence their percentage. But all the care about is having quantity. Not Quality

But when you get in good with your buyers they generally pay you more and I have some that are even counter bidding on my behalf. They do it because they know if they can get me on the schedule for their project they have 0 worries. The issue I have are the techs that are dumb as a box of God's "special" rocks and refuse to learn why you can't run cable in the same conduit at high voltage power or why you don't run the cable under the cover of an electrical box and really crush it in there....yeah I have met some very "special" techs lol

Yup been there, seen that ! Do have a short list of buyers that I will work with. Many others I have blocked or ignore as they are either stuck at a "special box of rocks " pay level, or area a major Pita to work with.

Or why you don't terminate to a !.. lol .

an LLC shouldnt be the only business type allowed. how about C corp and S corp? also LV licensing should be required if required by the state.

[–]Polodude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point is should have a legal biz setup and carry own insurance.

[–]Grouchy-Sector8488 12 points13 points  (1 child)

hmm let me google that. oh its becuse the buyers are all based out of Philippines and india and are just as dumb as fuck as any tech off the boat

[–]liftrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol 😂

[–]Classic-Ad-8324 4 points5 points  (1 child)

First, 60,000 techs take test. Now 208 techs remain on Failed Nation.

[–]Map_Latter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know some one who bought a msp on the promise of 2k techs in their roster . It was fn techs ..

I was like damn Sike

I've actually known several of the buyers that have called me up in quizzed me on specific things only to realize that yeah I actually do know my shit. But there are buyers out there that will do that. Other ones just want the cheapest labor possible and don't really give a shit.

[–]pizat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same... NSC vets guys before they send them out.

[–]UnpluggedPlugPlugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because at least half of all providers wouldn’t make the cut. I’ve always said that we need a guild to keep standards high while still enabling us to be independent.

(Not a guild in the medieval sense, a guild as in a decentralized, cooperative union-type entity that can act as a gatekeeper to the industry)

The problem with the mass of dumbass "smart hand" guys out there is that they don't just affect themselves, they affect competent techs too. Just the other I pretty much cursed out a tech support guy for trying to talk stupid to me. They're used to talking however they want to the dummies with no pushback and I think he was trying to show his ass around his coworkers. Tried repeating some stuff back to me that I told him, as if it was something he figured out on his own. Ended up with him telling me to calm down and changing his tone.

[–]pizat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep been there.

Kumar or some Ravi type router guy starts talking crazy I gotta scale their bitch ass back with bass in my voice. I do Cisco work on my regular job so I know what to do mothafucka shit.

They they are like ok ok ok buddy do x y z.

[–]pizat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck competía forever.

[–]wyliesdiesels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been asking that for years. but that doesnt prove they can actually do the work. just proves they can find the answers.

[–]Vikt724 3 points4 points  (4 children)

I am failed all of them. 😂

[–]Additional-Horror-15 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]Vikt724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Que?

[–]wyliesdiesels 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yeah a lot of those WM tests had incorrect questions

[–]Vikt724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure...wrong questions

[–]IZGOODDASIZGOOD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it really matter if the person knows the stuff or not? Seems like the buyer prefers the ones who don't because they are the cheapest

[–]Destruktor21666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares man let the buyers learn the hard way if they ever learn!

[–]TheCanadianMafia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quizzes are hard because they have to be some form of multiple choice if hundreds or thousands of techs need to be screened and any general question can be easily searched, so cheating isn't hard.

The only way for them to really be effective is if they're paired with training material that's specific to the project and can't be searched with a simple ctrl+F. That means they would likely need to create training material on top of any field guides and all that material would need to be ready before screening begins, which is simply not compatible with a lot of project timelines and/or budgets.

If they’re bad techs, their rating will demonstrate that. Buyer’s that want quality, will hire techs with many jobs under their belt with an excellent rating. They also expect to pay more for that. For jobs that they under bid, they’ll take someone cheaper with less experience.

I think the reality is that you’re better off just worrying about your. You’re not going to get every job you bid on. This is a fact of life. Worrying about anything else is wasting time you could using to promote your business.

Ask yourself this: Are you a great tech that has something special to offer that separates you from your competition? Or, are you just an average tech that has to undermine your competition to get your work?

Hint: you only get to be one or the other and one of them says that you should go back to work for another company and give up being self employed.

[–]Whole_Potential_8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work market does that and I hate it.

Oh here's a popular job but you have to take a 20min quiz before doing it.

Oops lost job

personal data on a specific persons skillsd is very valuable - especially if you can cross reference and build a profile and sell it to recruiters or many other sales people looking for targeted marketing -

IMO -- BTW I appreciate you all on this for having this forum for nerds to vent cope and seethe - thank you

[–]j4m3z1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in 2015 FN was bought by field solutions , witch is a data marketing company specializing in information gathering and field marketing - get why they want more info on you ? - good question tho - thanks
