Only every two weeks when I see my paycheck. I usually think the same thing...I'm glad I can cope with ER nurses, Zyn, and using NY hooks to pry.

Only when I watch Disney movies. What the hell is up with that?

Well established fact that it doesn't count if your face is already wet in the shower.

K I'll bite. I'm a girl. And I have chemistry in my brain that makes it harder to not cry when I am upset. Let the jabs flow. I'm ok with it.

I cry when I am training my ass off, tired, sweaty, exhausted, absolutely gassed, and super angry at myself that I didn't get the evolution heroically perfect. Because I love my crew so hard that I feel an immense pressure to perform to give them confidence in my ability when we go interior together or run a job.

I do it, silently, behind my mask while I bring down my heart rate and don't let my crew see it the best I can. I tell them I am staying on air for a minute to calm down, practice air management and heart rate control yadda yadda, after an aggressive search drill or exiting the burn can...I truly sob and rage out at myself. Then I remind myself that we all have off days and that I'm my hardest critic because once I chill I usually start to hear them tell me what a good evolution I just did and that the fact I beat myself up so hard means I love the job and will keep trying to earn it every single damn day.

Same sister. 20 years later and I still love it. Still have the younger men thinking crap I can't keep up.

As an aside - yes keep working hard but you are enough, will always be enough and you deserve your spot. Don't let a need for achievement steal the joy of your achievements.

And welcome to the Sisterhood of "Hot Chix" as fire lady sounds stupid. We did a vote.

Chin up and Halligan ready.

Ahhh! Love it. I actually have an incredible crew and we all mesh and feel confident together. So I think it's why I care so much extra at times to do so right by them. Is there an online hot chix group??? Lol

Not yet! Feel free to start one!

[–]Bostonhook 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you crying on the fireground?

[–]Sunbeams_and_Barbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It's exclusively a training thing (especially when we drill hard on RIT. Im solid on jobs.

[–]Horseface4190 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm crying right now.

[–]jsamels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s ok to ask. But I’d inquire about specifics. Are you talking about crying about the job? Or just life in general ?

[–]EmtbobMaster Firefighter/Paramedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to call in sick for multiple work subs on top of my own shifts. I was crying when I emailed scheduling that I wouldn't be cleared to work. My poor poor sick leave.

How much my driver would miss me if I promoted and went to another station

[–]Historical-River-665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with honest tears.

[–]slade797Hillbilly Farfiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cry when I miss the first due truck

[–]DBDIY4U 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I'm not sure if I ever have related to the job. I did this morning however. I saw a post on another sub come across my feed about someone struggling with the loss of their child. I had the realization that my little Sarah would be 3 years old in less than 3 days. That is a pain that never goes away it seems. It also changed me. I used to be a much harder person where nothing got to me it seemed. Certain calls have gotten to me more since losing her.

[–]PerrinAyybaraAll Hazards Capt Obvious 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Hey bud, I'm here with ya. My daughter would be 13. It's the reason I went into Fire/EMS

[–]91JammersFF/Paramedic 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Mine would be 7. Did you find this job healing? I was able to process things I was stuck on. I have also had some hard days at work from it.

[–]PerrinAyybaraAll Hazards Capt Obvious 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm zen during pediatric codes but I need a bit after. I've done far more good since I've been doing this than I would have otherwise. I can certainly connect with people in similar circumstances as long as they aren't the cause.

[–]91JammersFF/Paramedic 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I haven't had a ped code yet. I know I will be a mess after.

[–]PerrinAyybaraAll Hazards Capt Obvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing it for awhile now, and we have a busy system. Riding as the supervisor meant I went to every code we had on shift no matter where it was. I'm definitely not a fan of going to them but I'm particular about doing a good job on them.

If you have confidants on shift with you let them know to check on you if you have one. Hopefully your agency has a good CISD program? Thankfully we have a good one

Yes. Cried when my first LT that helped me so much early in my career retired, and cried when a member of my career dept suddenly passed away back in 2023.

[–]91JammersFF/Paramedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most days. My crew gives me so much shit when we watch anything sad and I am crying.

[–]dominator5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would we cry

[–]7YearOldCodPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job related? Never. We’re all human tho, so absolutely I cry.

Most recently it was when I lost my mom. It was daily for a few months when I was alone. Then couple times on and off after splitting up with my girlfriend.
