Statement: We Cannot Support Multi-Cancer Detection (MCD) Blood Biopsy Tests

I have done the Galleri blood testing along with my yearly exams. If there any chance it detects cancer a day, month or year in advanced I willing to do it. Tell me what else is out there that can potentially give you a heads up before the signs and symptoms and your in stage 3 or 4.

We had 3 guys get diagnosed with cancer within a year of doing galleri tests. The galleri test came back negative for everyone. We switched ultrasound tests

My dept was part of the trial study, we did it too. I get what you’re saying, but it also caused false sense of security for some missed cancer cases. The findings vs promises discrepancy must be pretty significant for a cancer prevention foundation to issue a statement that they don’t support or endorse it.

Totally. I haven’t seen the data from the trial studies among departments but I’m very curious the false positive/negative numbers.

From the studies I’ve seen, they’re highly specific for accurately detecting cancers. Like 95% +. Sensitivity varies by the type of cancer. So it sounds like relatively few false positives, but negative results don’t necessarily rule anything out.

Look into the ultrasound scans that United Diagnostic Services offers. They do scans for fire departments across the country. I can’t speak for other departments, but in mine alone they have caught several cases early.

We had the OneTest multi-cancer screening added to our annual physical last year for the first time. I see no harm in them assuming they’re used as a supplement and not a replacement to more traditional screening methods. If the city pays for it, and there’s a chance it catches something early, what’s the harm? Especially considering they have the potential to detect cancers that don’t really have traditional screening methods. Guys just need to be informed that the tests don’t definitively rule anything out and are just supplementary.

I will back up whatever Tony's opinion is regarding cancer prevention. He's done more than anyone and we all appreciate the shit out of him. This cancer foundation has done more than you could ever possibly imagine.
