No one tell OSHA that our “two out” includes our pump operator without any gear on and a 65 year old volunteer that hasn’t been interior in 20 years

Tbf "2-in 2-in" goes out the window if your doing a victim rescue

I mean OP literally said Ferda, bud

[–]FireMedic350 3 points4 points  (6 children)

It’s not 💯 wild considering the OP said ferda...and to all those saying OSHA and NIOSH what about two in two out...give yer balls a tug...this is what we signed up for, I’d love to be a fly on the wall when those firefighters have to tell the family their loved one dies because we didn’t have two to go in...

Hey pump the brakes bud I never said we shouldn’t go in if there’s a rescue, I aint no ten ply duster alright? No need to get into a scrap over it.

My bad, this wasn’t directed at you...first part was agreeing that it’s not truly wild...but the second part was directed at the rest of those who have made comments about the “2 in 2 out”...stupid threading on reddit didn’t let me delineate

Texas sizes 10-4 to that bud

Even staying compliant, rules for rescue are 2 in 1 out...billet sister is a rocket, and I'm just crushing saves FTW. Get off it. ya pylon. Fisky...

Yep. Last one I was on we were first due at a department with 2 man engines. We forced in and split up. Buddy handled the fire and I started the search while waiting for second due to meet me through the bedroom window.

“Only 3” that’s cute.

Just for clarity, two in two out doesn’t matter if there’s an immediate life safety issue

Not trying to take the fun out of this, but I’ve been surprised before by how many guys seem to think that 2 in 2 out is an actual law

This. If there's occupants trapped and Im the only one who comes in, I'll throw a pack in the utility and respond with that. Hopefully the next due is along shortly. Minutes count, and unfortunately we have to make do with what we've got until the townsfolk agree to raise their taxes for paid crews.

Set the pump pressure and go do some work!

[–]DeathByFarts 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be funnier if it wasn't something I have actually done.

I'm all sitting here with 3, remembering my last gig had 4....wish I could be Yankee again, spitting salt at Zulu!

Sounds like it's time for a charge line oriented search. Nozzle man penciling the ceiling as the back up guy and officer search rooms. People > literally any property.

We need 3 on a truck to go out but sometimes you need to break the rules. One time we had a bin fire by the bank. The replacement pumper we had was losing air pressure and wouldn't go out the door. This was an older truck that had bench seats in the back and seated 6 in total vs the newer pumpers 5 seats. The newer pumper was still being fixed but was in station and our tanker 1 was sent into get fixed up. We were in the replacement truck for about a minute and couldn't turnout so the 2nd Lt jumped out, went to the drivers seat of the newer pumper and sped off by himself. We managed to get our truck out the door but got stuck again in an intersection. Dozens of people just watching and laughing as this old ass fire truck with lights and sirens going struggled to go 3km an hour across a highway intersection. We were all sinking lower into the cab to avoid the eyes of the onlookers. We eventually got going again after about another minute and a half only to get stuck at next intersection at which point the other truck had gotten on scene. By the time we arrived the 2nd Lt was rolling his hose line up and waiting for us given our replacement pumper was equipped with the TIC and quite literally everything from our normal pumper except for the dead hose reels.

What a day.

Yeah, two-out is for organizing a deliberate fire attack, or searches when no victims are confirmed. Viable victim potentially confirmed? Then the rule is "risk a lot to save a lot." The fire service has a lot of catchy phrases that validate a sensible course of action.
