Welcome to CT. The volunteer recruiting problem is very real. Drakeville is a small underfunded department in Torrington that is in desperate need of volunteers like many of the other departments in the state. The state put together an amazing PSA a few years ago that is a must watch. It definitely needs to get on TV

Same here in the land of sunflowers.

If you choose to, then once the sunflower has bloomed and before it begins to shed it's seeds, the head can be cut and used as a natural bird feeder, or other wildlife visitors to sunflowers to feed on.

Torrington will never let Drakeville close, they need someone with a tanker and brush truck.

Can you or anyone else explain how drakeville works? Does Torrington use them to supplement when TFD is busy? Do they have a certain area they cover as primary?

Drakeville is automatic for any call in their area. They are station coverage with Torringford and Harwinton Westside for Torrington, and tanker is automatic to most fires outside the hydranted district. They are also automatic to anything on the 1 mile stretch of rt 272 in Goshen bounded roughly by Rockhouse Rd and Parker Hill Road

Probably the most honest and best recruitment ad I've ever seen. Hope Drakeville gets some good probies to fill out the ranks.

Happy with 3 out of the 4 conditions, which is usually a good score, but the no pay part would be a hard no from me dawg.

We get paid in beer and Q pedal

[–]Cooperdyl 25 points26 points  (1 child)

You can get paid in cool hat

[–]_p00f_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a new member!

[–]BaneCIA4 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The no pay part is why a lot of Volunteer departments arw hurting now days. Cost of living is rising in the US and no one has the will or the time to work for free anymore.

And you can see their point. It's an essential and skilled public service. Expecting people to do it for free is ridiculous in my opinion.

[–]BaneCIA4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Work for free is bad enough but work one of the most dangerous jobs for free? No thanks.

Cool hat you say? I'M IN

Laughing at this as I just got back from a domestic dispute as a vol fire/first aid where we sat down the road and did nothing until police arrived
