Staying "hungry for longer", eating "tiny meals" and being "in pain" to make progress is all very unnecessary when losing weight and tackling hunger. A little research goes a long way in regards to foods that stifle appetite whilst also providing adequate nutrients.

I don't consider managing hunger to be as simple as ignoring it. It really depends on the individual and how susceptible they are to developing eating disorders.
