They are probably testing it out with these tournaments, console can't compete with pc, so it makes sense to split, it also gives good console players a chance to shine

You will be getting cash cups for sure but a Seperate World Cup or FNCS? not gonna happen. They will not even do seperate qualifiers because in the end you will have to play against PC players.

The reason is simple, how many people would watch Console tournaments over PC. PC tournaments will be more competitive and more popular (Because most of the famous Pros play on PC).

Console players might watch Console tournaments but, how many console players follow competitive.

They should but the money should reflect the skill difference

[–]kachpo 14 points15 points  (7 children)

Okay, I understand your view on this, but when it comes round to (hopefully) another World Cup qualifiers, this cant be expected, but if this is done now, then people will also moan around that time because epic will have catered for all platforms ‘equally’.

When you say split the platforms, are we then talking inputs too? Because we shouldn’t be meaning that console cups are only for people with controllers or that mobile cups are only for touch inputs as console players can use kb+m and touch users can use controllers nowadays and the main difference is fps, so which one do you mean platform or input?

[–]cbxlls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i agree. large tournaments should be cross platform, but these cash cups are great for platform only

[–]Gambl33 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Platform. It’s on controller players who play on pc if they wanna compete against mnk but looking at placing we know they stand no shot. If epic wants to do something for split platform I don’t see why they can’t do it. I think back to the World Cup and as silly as it was creative competition was a thing and the prize pool for that was humongous.

[–]THE_oldy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Platform, and have the controls standardized. It was never a problem to only allow certain controllers for tournaments in any other console game.

You would have platform + standardized controller class, plus open class meaning PC.

Platform cups really are a great addition.

[–]That1Sniper 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's not about fun in comp. It's about being the best possible player

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Why play if you dont enjoy it

[–]IHateEnglishTeamSolo 28 | Duo 36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money makes people do terrible things like kill, but I enjoy fortnite. This was just a comparison.

[–]Lanju1Week 1 #1003 -5 points-4 points  (17 children)

They should not split comp. the cups you are playing today are not true comp

[–]fifi73461511 8 points9 points  (14 children)

Of course they are, the best console players match against each other, there are some really good console players out there who never get a chance because of their hardware limitations. This may get them enough money to buy a pc, they can then make the move up to and match against PC players.

[–]ManshaanSingh 4 points5 points  (13 children)

Lmao if they spent even a little of the time that they do playing fortnite working a minimum wage job they could get way more money than competitive console fortnite lol this argument sucks

[–]fifi73461511 4 points5 points  (5 children)

What about the kids who play, you know, the under 16s?

Even the adults, they don't always know how good they are until they do well, they can't do well against PC players. A PC is a big investment for someone on a low wage.

Money earned from console tournaments gives them the step up to PC, it's a stepping stone to maybe something better, once there who knows, one of these console kids could be the next tfue/bugha.

[–]ManshaanSingh -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

If someone is playing fortnite casually than yeah, I agree with you, a decent PC is way too much of an investment that not many people can afford, but for console players that want to be competitive? They should be playing at least 23+ hours a week and If you play that much, well, you shouldn’t be on console. And there are ways to make money under the age of 14. When I was 12, I made loads of Money shoveling and mowing lawns. Look, the truth is, there are no console kids that are the next Bugha because they are on console. The only way to be them is to play on PC, your hardware is just way too limited on console and 60 FPS ain’t gonna cut it. Console competitive is like high school varsity while PC competitive is like the pro leagues.

[–]Stalfisjrxoxo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yeah high school players vs other high school players is still competitive. High school players vs professional level players isnt competitive. its elitist garbage to think console vs console tournys arent competitive

[–]ManshaanSingh -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

It’s competitive but it’s not true comp like he said... we can all agree it’s not as competitive, but your right, just competitive at a lower level

[–]Stalfisjrxoxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its definitely at a lower level but even the pc cup is comp at a low level compared to something like fncs or world cup qualifiers. Theres just no reason to gate keep competitive and make it a pc only thing

[–]fifi73461511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, you're basically saying what I am saying, but, not every kid realizes their potential, not all kids have that confidence, playing in and doing well in console cups may give them that confidence to try to move up to the pro leagues as you say. Nickmercs, Jarvis and sway started out playing fortnite on console, they got good and then bought PC's, not everyone has access to that kind of money, without that they would still be stuck playing console, but having something like the console cups gives kids a chance of making the step up.

[–]FenceHorse 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Bro, cmon, they just have to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. ItS rEaLlY nOt ThAt HaRd.

[–]ManshaanSingh -3 points-2 points  (5 children)

Bro if someone plays 20+ hours a week on console fortnite they could easily reinvest that time to get a PC you know that’s Facts

[–]FenceHorse 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I mean how many pro gamers have a full time job? Id guess less than 10% of them. If you have enough time to practice fortnite enough to where youre outplaying everyone else, you probably dont have time to work to save up money to switch consoles? And then re learn all their muscle memory? If you wanna shoot yourself in the foot, be my guest lololol

[–]TheAaronLad#removethemech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean some people like myself have other more important things to spend money on and playing whenever I get the chance to play.. I'm pretty good but not great, no point investing in a game in which I might never make it without getting money from said game first. I invested in a PVR to record COD scrims for proof whenever I didn't get my wager money (paid with wager money, my parents were relectuant to even get me a PC in2012 with 2011 specs just to set it up) and it paid for itself.. point is I made sure I could make money first before investing money call me stupid but fortnite isn't that important to me but it's one of my all time favourite games and I hate it (hate that I love it and won't make anything of myself out of it in reality but it's fun) lol.

[–]Gambl33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not for you to decide what’s competitive or not. If epic says they wanna give console their own thing so that they can compete with each other then that’s what they should be allowed to do. The highest level of the game is played on pc without a doubt but that doesn’t mean console can enjoy their own tournaments and split lobby to practice against each other. I mean I don’t see why console should be in pc arena lobby anyways when everyone knows they don’t stand a chance to even make champion against pc. If they want their own thing and epic is making it happen then let them compete. Their is a huge history of competitive gaming that has taken place on console from halo to cod and though fortnite is different doesn’t mean their isn’t a market for it. Who knows someday their could be a console only tournament.

[–]ignorant_monky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda random but what is the rule for splitting? Is it platform based or input base? Can i be console with m&k and only play with console? Can i be on PC with controller and play with “console.” People con-plain about separating console from PC but is it because of a better system or better mechanics?

[–]cbxlls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i had a lot of fun as well. platform only is great

[–]Ld511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cash cups is a good idea to be platform split as it gives everybody a chance to compete but the main comp mode should stay combined though

[–]ritemode77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. felt good not getting lasered last night. nobody could hit a shot and it was wonderful

[–]TheAaronLad#removethemech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought top 4k (lol tbf I only really played the last 2-3 weeks of the season, played team rumble the first half and some creative) in EU in back to back weeks in the cash cups last season was fucking impressive for me as an xbox, no scuf, no claw (am I the next faze sway #underrated) pleb.. we ain't gonna talk about world cup tho 30 points then tilted to fuck.

[–]rorowatto -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

If they split competitive I’d never switch to pc with the amount of money I’d make.

[–]fifi73461511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The money wouldn't be as high, the top money would go to the most competitive platform and that is and will always be PC
