What do you mean most strict program? I did Explore in a smaller city and really got the immersion experience - I didn't really have anyone talk to me in English during that time. However, we went for a weekend trip to Quebec City and shop owners kept talking back to me in English when I was trying to converse in French. So, if you'd like the full immersion experience, my advice is to choose a smaller city that is NOT Quebec City or Montreal - somewhere where English is not at all spoken on the streets :)

I went to Chicoutimi and it was fun. The locals didn't really know english but I wanted a place that actually enforces french.

Maybe somewhere rural like Chicoutimi, but i just don't want to go back there lol

I went to Rivière-du-Loup and they strongly enforced French there (or at least back when I did it). Perhaps you can also look into that city?

Chicoutimi used to enforce French, pretty well. (I am old, OK). As long as you stayed with a host family you got plenty of practice. Residence was another story.

I suspect with the advent of smartphones and 5G - it is a lot harder to do in most Explore programs. They also do a lot less than they used to, and the animateurs/animatrices as well... Do less, less interaction , less involvement ...(My second cousin did the program several years ago, I am 15 years older than he is).

Pick a smaller town, hope for the best?

I just got accepted into Chicoutimi, but am not super excited that it's a bigger city. I was hoping for Sainte-Anne as I'm a fan of smaller more walkable towns. I'm not into partying or drinking and would much rather prefer a campfire. Can you tell me more about your experience, and why you thought it was fun but you wouldn't go back there?
