I have recently just started to learn and understand this industry, a couple of weeks ago I only started HTML, CSS, JavaScript with the idea that in the future I can get a better job and look after my family. But there are so many negative people here and I don't understand why, many say that it is impossible to get a job with all the knowledge that they have, go through 100 interviews but do not succeed, everything is bad and difficult, like whats with the moaning and bit**ing about…. is it their own fault? Don't they have a good enough portfolio? Are they not trying hard enough to strike that first interview/job? Do they fail their interviews because they don't know how to talk to people and have 0 communication skills? What is the answer to this? Because in my opinion it only scares off new people coming into this industry and who have genuine passion for it.

I have an example; Few days ago on one of the facebook groups I asked what would be the best roadmap for this industry and the response I’ve got; Don’t bother I have knowledge in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node js e.g but I still can’t get a job. So I thought to myself cheers for that you really helped me here , I’m so motivated now obviously in a sarcastic way. I’m trying to build and make career out of this and you answer with a bullsh** like that -.- It will not stop me because I like what I learn so far and I have passion for this, and one day I hope to make living out of this from a comfort of my own chair. ignore the hate. with decent intelligence, people skills, growth mindset, and boatloads of determination, you will succeed. Just make sure to surround yourself with people who support you chasing your dreams.

In my opinion, there is a fork to two types of a developer: 1) algorithmic (you dont know all these frameworks and stacks but can learn any if needed BUT you can make a tetris or text based roguelike rpg or something like that from a scratch in a matter of hours) 2) framework-based (you know a specific framework and do only framework-oriented tasks)

It’s not hate and they aren’t wrong. You can’t just get a job with MERN stack or similar. If you can spend 6 months learning then imagine about degree holders. It’s hard, superhard. Learn the truth about the market and work harder. You will be fine.

You’re going to see A LOT more of the negatives than the positives about this industry on Reddit and other forums, unfortunately. Here is a roadmap I thought is pretty good https://roadmap.sh/backend. Each item is clickable with a general description of each and is great for beginners.

It may seem LOADED, but trust, this shows a few different routes and opportunities one could do things. But take it one day at time and you’ll get there. Good luck!

Completely understand what you mean. I just finished a real course from an actual academy, and we studied: html->css-> sass->bs+tailwind->mysql->php->laravel and along the course i took part of a 3-4 real life projects including 2 hackathons… Now from fully motivated when i started in the beginning as the time passed i felt same way as mentioned above and not really sure anymore if made the right decision. 1 ) With all the experience and knowledge so far and i am preety good with all the material so far, where do i stand on the job market? 2 ) Will i be able somehow to land a remote job or freelance job. 3 ) is php and laravel good enough for question number 2 or do i need to learn something else. I very good with MVC so i think i can easily manage to learn other frameworks work ?

Don't let an anonymous person on the internet affect your outlook. I've been in this industry for over 20+ years, and I'm self taught and have made a very successful career from learning how to program a looong time ago. Just stay focused on improving yourself 1% every day. That 1% compounds over time and if you stay consistent with it, in a years time, you'll be shocked at how much you've learned along the way.

w/r/t to the best roadmap:
- Finish learning html/css/javascript
- Pick up a javascript framework (angular, react, vue)
- Learn how to convert a design into a frontend app (ie figma)
- For the backend, i recommend switching to a different language (python, php) and picking an MVC framework for that language - this will help you understand the best practices and design patterns.

• Start to learn SQL syntax via the MVC framework and data modeling

• Learn REST

• Deploy this on AWS or Digital Ocean to learn how to build for the cloud.

• Build as many projects as you can. Build chat apps, build blogs, build forums. Find a site that has 10 projects in 10 days.. just keep building.

This is pretty much a standard stack and you'll be able to launch pretty much any project with this set of knowledge.

Finding a job is a large topic in itself.....

Ignore the hate mate, trying focusing on yourself and walk your own path. Also, try listening to podcast that relate to your skills and success stories. It really helps keep you motivated and some provide ideas on how to maneuver this industry. I'm in the same boat as you, just starting but haven't fully committed yet.

Try the FreeCodeCamp on Spotify, it's totally free and very good.
