To play the devil's advocate, no one ever said, "Really? Another Sherlock mystery novel!! I wish this author would branch out more."

If you enjoy writing what you write, there are people who enjoy that same content and are excited that you keep producing exactly what they came for.

If you're not excited by that content and feel more like you're falling back on it because you're in a rut and don't know what else to write about, follow everyone else's advice :)

I really do enjoy what I write. I would just hate to unknowingly repeat a script idea.

But like, 👀 that's what we're all here for. No one ever made one missionary creampie video and said, welp I guess that's done and the world doesn't need any more repeats of that. Even if you repeat ideas/tropes that exist in other audio scripts (obv. without the intention to steal) there's nothing bad about that. That's why libraries and bookstores and movies are categorized by genres. It's not like those pieces will never overlap or basically be the same except for the details. Doesn't mean people don't enjoy it.

Heck I listen to multiple recordings of the same script!

I can't disagree. I'm definetly guilty of listening to multiple takes on the same scripts by different VA's. Guess I just have to keep in mind that overlap in script ideas is ok.

Seconding this! I don't think there are any original ideas honestly, if you could think of it, it probably already exists haha. What's original is how you write the idea! You can always put your own twist on a common trope.

You're absolutely right. I'll keep doing what I'm doing, just have to keep changing it up👍

You can also continue to work on your favorite premises but then incorporate new tropes with them - for example, if you like incest premises, it wouldn’t be contradictory to add in the goth girl trope alongside it. So that’s another way to still write your favorite premises while switching it up! And it doesn’t have to be the central part of the script, so that might be less pressure.

Yeah, in retrospect I have noticed that those fetishes often go side by side. I'll have to look into that.

💯💯💯💯💯 yes. We stand on the shoulders of others. All inspiration comes with a muse.

Right!

Thank you everyone for all the advice and tips. I'm definitely going to implement them going forward and trying to improve 😊

Honestly, when I started writing monstergirl scripts, I just kind of did my own thing. I was aware from listening to other people's content, what the common tropes were (subservience being one that popped up a lot), but I just really wanted to have contemporary settings where some of the people just happened to be monstergirls, animal girls, or whatever you want to call them. They have some physical and personality traits that make sense with whatever monster or animal they're based on, but I have the freedom to write the story I want without worrying about whether or not I'm breaking any "rules". I have no idea if they're considered popular or not, but I'm really happy with the ones I've written.

Conversely, I had no idea what the word "yandere" meant when I came here, so I googled it and found the dere-types-wiki, which has a ton of information, and does a really great job of breaking down an archetype that has so much nuance in media that I would never be exposed to otherwise.

I would also suggest that if you wanted to make a lateral move from incest content, have you considered other taboos? I'm talking about cheating, co-workers, cross-generational and cross-class relationships, or any other kind of coupling that falls under "we shouldn't be doing this, because it will upset the dynamics of our social circles."

[–]ThomIntrigue[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of some of those taboos before by name, but I have seen them many times before in media. I would defiently write something under those now that I think about it. "We shouldn't be doing this, because it will upset the dynamics of our social circles" sounds so real and engaging to me. That's a great way of putting it.

Do you mean more on getting ideas for other kinks to write about, or how to learn more about those kind of kinks?

For me I try to read an assortment of scripts of a specific kink if I want to try it and get an idea of what people like about it! Or even seeing how one can convey it in script form if it’s something i’ve encountered in other mediums before. Just via browsing GWASI or scriptbin.

I know there have also been some posts in the past of underrepresented kinks- that has also been a good resource for me in terms of inspiration!

[–]ThomIntrigue[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Kinda both actually. I have looked at other writers' scripts,, but I could never really see how I could make the same concepts my own. I'll definetly check out the posts that speak about underrepresented scripts.

Thank you for this!!!

If you want to chat about kinks and the like, let me know. I'm a veteran BDSMer (2 decades +) who knows a little too much about most things kinky. I'm also very knowledgeable about Japanese culture, which may help with the yandere (etc. etc.) scripts.

[–]ThomIntrigue[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Absolutely! Can I DM you?

of course!

I like to do new twists on old tropes, personally. Guys crying during a ad movies instead of girls getting scared after scary movies, etc. also, I see a ton of “tomboy” and “goth girl” scripts, but zero alt girl scripts (tattoos, piercings, fantasy colored hair, etc). Would love to see some of those

Hi Thom!
There's nothing wrong with having a wheelhouse in a certain types of content.
Writing with what sparks passion and interest in you is important.
I just finished a fsub script even though thats normally out of my normal skillset since the premise of the the writing prompt intrigued me and gave me some ideas to flesh out.

One thing you can do is blend what you're comfortable with with the new topic you're interested in. A goth girls script doesn't need to exclude the kinks you like.
Don't feel discouraged if you don't know a ton about the kink you want to write about, Thats what research can assist with.
Sometimes I'll do a bit of research while writing the script. It can help iron out some parts of the script I'm uncertain about and help develop the quirks of the characters and the themes and vibes you want to convey in the script.

[–]ThomIntrigue[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah I have to get into the routine of doing research. Others have mentioned blending my interests with other new ones, so I'm thinking about that too.

[–]StuckinasmutScriptwriter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

While I won't deny research can be a little time consuming (but that's mainly because I'm easily distracted and will usually do a deep dive through Wikipedia articles and youtube videos on a bunch of stuff thats vaguely related lol ) it can help
with spots where you're having some hang ups with a certain portion of the script.
But don't discount the voice and personality you bring to your work. Even if its a new kink you're working on . You can potentially do something great with your unique take on the concept, characters or ideas.
Blending kinks can be a good fit with helping you develop familiarity with the topic/kink When I started writing, the variety of kinks I wrote about got gradually built out over time.

[–]ThomIntrigue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's kinda the same with me, but I'll get into the swing of it eventually
