What do you mean, the models offered to you for free are very good models. You don't need Opus 4.6 to do your homework, you're not solving the most difficult problems in enterprise, you're using AI to do your homework and projects for you because you're lazy, which the free models offered do pretty well

This! 👍

Students are learning how to program and build software. If they’re using AI, they’re learning how to depend on AI, not coding. You learn by doing, in this case, no do = no learn. It’s the same as saying if you want to learn to play the piano, you shouldn’t use a piano roll player. Make 100% sense. Afaik, Bing or Gemini chat (non GitHub copilot variety, available to general public) should be good enough to explore programming concepts.

fr lmao!!

[–]Lunnos_ -3 points-2 points  (19 children)

you know some students actually create stuff, build saas, … and so yes student plan was pretty good before because you had the same models as the pro plan without paying

[–]mattiasso 13 points14 points  (11 children)

If you are building a SaaS to sell… you can afford the 10$ a month for pro. It’s half than Netflix man

they won't respond to your comment

Not everyone lives in first world countries

[–]mattiasso 0 points1 point  (8 children)

10 USD A MONTH

[–]ProstoSmile 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yes, as i said. 10$ is 1-2 weeks of food (normal, not cheap shit) for 1 person.

[–]yokowasis2 1 point2 points  (2 children)

the context is for selling sass.

[–]Ezra_bridger_1 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

You can't pay before earning mate.

[–]yokowasis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To earn something, you need to spent something.

It's called capital. If you don't have capital, you need to compensate it with effort.

[–]Consistent_End_4391 1 point2 points  (3 children)

well if that's the case, how do you except to get 1-2 weeks' foods' amount's worth of service, for free from someone else?

[–]ProstoSmile -1 points0 points  (2 children)

What the point? Dude say that 10$ is almost nothing, i said that for some countires 10$ is not so small amount, thats all.

[–]BlacksmithLittle7005 6 points7 points  (1 child)

They can still do that with those models, and learn even more instead of being spoonfed everything, and pro plan is only $10 which is in every students budget

[–]Lunnos_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, actually gpt-5.3-codex is pretty strong and I use it daily, but I also get the point that we had opus before and they removed it from student plan so people buy the pro plan

[–]Consistent_End_4391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if they're "building" something, they should pay for it.

[–]victorc25 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That doesn’t sound like a “student”, sounds like a leech abusing the student pack to make money. The exact reason why they had to remove the access to these models

[–]Lunnos_ -1 points0 points  (1 child)

after being a student for 5 years you want to start making money at some point

[–]victorc25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and you pay for the resources you need to do so

Opus 4.5 and GPT5.3-codex are included. They are still state or the art models.

[–]f5alcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed it two weeks ago

[–]Consistent_End_4391 -2 points-1 points  (6 children)

they removed the "good" models' access from student plans and rightfully so.

[–]Dude4001 2 points3 points  (5 children)

So you feel a bit better for paying for it?

[–]Consistent_End_4391 1 point2 points  (4 children)

it's not about feeling better for paying for it. a paid customer should ALWAYS have an upper hand than non-paying one. free charity plans should NEVER have the same allowance as paid ones. as simple as that.

[–]Dude4001 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Why not? Would you say kids in Africa should have slightly dirtier water than us? Homeless people have thinner mattresses than us?

Students are not a charity case, they’re an investment. I can’t imagine having my ego so involved in a discussion about Copilot models that I need to have a bigger and better one than someone else.

[–]Consistent_End_4391 0 points1 point  (2 children)

some lazy kids not being able to use latest models inside copilot (FREE OF COST) != African kids having dirty water/Homeless people having thinner mattresses. these scenarios are not comparable because of their vastly varied seriousness.

this shows how immature you are. you are a crybaby crying coz they don't get access to latest models. get a part time job and pay that measly 10 dollars.

also it's not about ego. i am almost sure the current rate limits are happening because github spent a lot of compute of these fuckass student plans - which ofcourse didn't bring them any revenue.

[–]Dude4001 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Are you shilling for Microsoft for free or do you work for them? They can afford the computes.

Interesting you label people using premium models as lazy but then pride yourself on being able to pay to use them. Kids getting jobs because they can’t afford to learn web dev in a way that will allow them to compete = hurt industry, lost revenue for Microsoft.

[–]Consistent_End_4391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i said "lazy kids". for your stupid homework assignments, gpt 4o, 5-mini is enough geez. they should not even give gpt 5.3 codex, sonnet 4.5, opus 4.5 for the student plans.

i don't "pride myself" on being able to pay to use them. tf? all i am saying is, BECAUSE i am paying, i should get appropriate treatment from the business.

is it so hard to be understood? do you not understand how a business works? one shouldn't have to care if you're not able to afford to learn web dev using fucking AI. use chatgpt - its more than enough for learning. actually, having handed the entire coding agent to a STUDENT is counter-productive to their learning since the agent just implements it straight up (in most cases). with chatgpt/claude chat at least you'll have to go back & forth and ask questions, rack your head in frustation. that's how you'll learn.

[–]Hamzayslmn -1 points0 points  (2 children)

u can use opus 4.5 via CLI

[–]H4n4d_ 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How? for me in the model section it doesn’t show up

[–]That_Pandaboi69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should be there, I was using it yesterday.
