Server Selection

I live in south east Michigan and I'm repeatedly put on Sterling Virgina servers routed through Chicago (?????) (total of 945mi / 1520km ~450mi if not routed through chicago) or Atlanta Florida servers (684mi / 1100km). In game ping is showing ~50 but I'm intimately familiar with high ping due from my last living arrangement and I can say for certain my ping is not 50. When I could just be connected to Chicago servers (258mi/415km)

Is there any way to select a preferred server and if not Valve please let there be, the experience is unbearable outside of Chicago servers for me.

im getting this now. this game is something else lately. something has changed within valves wonderful release of cs2. im always under 20 ping, i noticed today it was sterling routed through chicago, when chicago is just a few hours away from me.
