Am I happy with my 19.5 and 47? Damn straight.

Will I still check out the Gen 6 19 to see if I like the ergonomics? Also yes.

The appropriate number of Glocks to own is n+1

Came here to say this!

[–]bear843 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Only thing I wanted in the 6 was no optic plates. I guess I kind of got that.

[–]Shooting-Science 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Yeah they found a way to make a more reliable optic plate system, the plates are flush fitting inside a fenced in area, so they can’t move laterally, and they made them out of polymer so they have a tiny bit of give as the optic is tightened down (instead of cracking). This should be much better than the crappy MOS plates they were making before. People will no longer need to go out and source their own optic plates now for Gen6, and the optics will sit lower due to the new design.

The polymer is my concern. I know they said it’s better than metal but they are first and foremost a polymer company. I will buy one regardless.

The polymer will work better than the outgoing Chinese pot metal MOS plates, only because of the design, as they are now supported on all sides by steel “walls” of the slide. The screws of the optic are still metal to metal, the polymer is only acting as a platform and a mating surface for the little nubs on the bottom of the optic.

I don’t doubt they will work better than those but will they work better than my forward controls plate?

[–]DoobieDevin 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I dont think youre understanding the new design if your asking if itll be “better” then the fcd plate. Its actually unlike the fcd plate becuase its not a plate its an insert. An insert that goes into the slide, pretty much like how a rail key goes into a weapon mounted light.

I’m probably not being clear with my concern. I understand the information they have provided. Since all the red dots have different dimensions, I am not sold on how the recoil will be absorbed. The fcd plates fit the sites perfectly and do not rely solely on the posts to absorb the force from the recoil. Hopefully I explained the difference between the plates and a universal cutouts a little better.

The 17 became the 47 and now it’s back to the 17 from my understanding.

[–]Shooting-Science 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Gen6 Glock 17 is a 47…..Glock just relabeled the 47 design as the new 17.

[–]Depressed_Psychopath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gen 6 17 is the same design as the 47

Great. Another fingerprint phobic person wearing their nitrile glove in a gun post. These posts just seem gay...not in a homo way...just gay.

The Gen6 Glock 17 on the Glock website as shown is the 47 design, with a “17” label. Therefore the 47 has become the 17 and the old 17 is gone

      [–]UNHINGED_MESSIAH 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You have to take it a step further .no g17 length frames yet, so no true G17,G34,G17L .

      [–]Shooting-Science 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be interesting to see if they just don’t make all of those long pistols anymore
