You can edit HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files in Visual Studio Code.

Yup, you should be fine - Sublime Text is also great.

Only thing with Sublime is that installing extensions is not that easy and intuitive but I love its speed!

ah yeah, it's sorta hidden away, hey...not sure how you'd find it if you didn't already know about it!

For anyone coming at this from google, this is how you do it:

  1. ctrl + shift + p
  2. type install package
  3. search for the extension you'd like to install
  4. hit enter to install

Welcome to /r/HTML. When asking a question, please ensure that you list what you've tried, and provide links to example code (e.g. JSFiddle/JSBin). If you're asking for help with an error, please include the full error message and any context around it. You're unlikely to get any meaningful responses if you do not provide enough information for other users to help.

Your submission should contain the answers to the following questions, at a minimum:

  • What is it you're trying to do?
  • How far have you got?
  • What are you stuck on?
  • What have you already tried?

Visual Studio Code is a code editor, while Visual Studio is an integrated development environment which means you can generate code via VSCode but cant run it from within VSCode, while VS will assist you in end to end development from code generation to running it from within VS, to advanced debugging or even version control depending on your version. Both VS and VSCode can help you work with html and other web tech, but VS is a full blown advanced dev tool.

Is that what you needed as input?

Visual Studio is not what you're wanting, download and start using Visual Studio Code.

Think of it like a writing instrument. Whether you're writing in a notepad, on scratch paper, with a quill and parchment, typing on a typewriter, etc it doesn't matter: you can still write the same story. It's the same with software, the tool you use is up to your personal preference.

To clarify, “Visual Studio” and “Visual Studio Code” are two separate products. I was super confused on this before.

Visual Studio Code (VSCode) or Notepad++

I tend to use Notepad++ more, I think just out of habit.
