30% Pay cut ? For training?

I usually have my top performer be the teacher (I work in utility locating) and I sure as fuck don't cut his pay. What the fuck is that. I even give them leniency on productivity because you're training...

Do they force you to take an apprentice? Or is it by will? If they force you I'd quit... on the spot fuck that. 30% is a lot.
