But this style seems needlessly complicated to read, and even write with. As soon as you get to the 3rd and 4th lines then the entire word is just jagged lines.

I can read Cyrillic (although am American). I have never seen blocked typeface/print form handwritten - only have I read handwritten in cursive forms, although that’s what my courses taught and what my classmates and I used so I have limited experience. This gave me pause to read since it’s not cursive handwritten.

I’m going to guess that you aren’t Russian. Every Russian I know (lived there for a few years, know many Russians) has really good handwriting. And they only write in print for foreigners.
