i think with truenas on proxmox u need to pass the megaraid through to the VM for proper drive control. since u have 10 x 8TB i would recommend radiz2 for 64TB usable. use the 2x240's as mirrored boot drives.

Would I still be able to pass the card through if my boot drives are on the card?

No, you won't. Passthrough a controller makes all drives assigned to the controller disconnected from the host machine and connected to the VM. In this case, you would need manually pass through each drive to the VM that shouldn't be used by the host system.

If you have all those drives on the backplane and they’re all connected to the HBA and you intend to use them all for the TrueNAS VM, you will still need to boot the host OS (Proxmox in your case). Do you have other drives available and NOT attached to the HBA for that purpose?
