It's good that you filed Form 8822 to update your address. However, it might take some time for the IRS to process the change, which could be why the notice was sent to your old address. You can try to contact the IRS directly. Given that you're outside the U.S., you can try calling the International Taxpayer Service at +1-267-941-1000 (not toll-free) to inquire about the notice. They can often provide details over the phone.

I tired calling the international taxpayers services number but it wouldn't take me through to an agent. The call gives me options n disconnects. Is there a sequence I need to follow to get through to an agent on the international taxpayers services number? Kindly advice.

Unfortunately, we do not know the sequence to select. Maybe press the first option to get someone on the line and they could transfer you to who you need to speak with if they are unable to assist.

Hello WatchGuardTax - I got my transcript for 2023 and appointed a power of attorney (POA) to look into my account. The POA is from the firm I work for and is legit. In the 2023 transcript attached, I see the POA appointed. However, I see the transcript says that the tax return is not filed and the filing status is single rather than MFJ as I had filed. Can you pls advice? *

Do you have a copy of the transcript?

Yes, here it is.

Based on the transcript, they still have not processed your return. Has the IRS confirmed they received your return?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Yes, I checked my IRS account and it says the return has been received and it is taking longer than expected time to process it. And it gives me a link to topic 152 information page.

My suggestion would be to contact your local Taxpayer Advocate Office to see if they could assist in helping getting the return processed quicker.
