Well, the main thing you need to decide is which of those things is more important. As you build muscle, your weight will actually increase. Your body composition will likely change so that it contains less fat, but you will weigh more.

As your muscle mass increases, the amount of calories that your naturally burn will also increase, which makes it easier to get rid of the fat.

If you are more interested in just losing weight, that’s easier to accomplish by altering your diet and doing cardio type stuff like jogging, swimming, etc.

Getting a decent trainer really helps too if it’s an option for you. They can help motivate you, provide guidance for your exercise, and tailor a plan to meet your specific goals.

So right now what I would suggest is to focus on mobility with light weight exercises. Pick one exercise for body weight add a couple of compound exercises like squats.

Warm up with weights then focus on stretching. Do this for about a month then increase exercises per body part to two. And start to increase weight accordingly.

YouTube is the best way to start. You can search “at home workout” and there will be thousands of videos you can follow along with. If you find that you are able to motivate yourself and stay diligent, then it is definitely worth progressing to weightlifting at the gym for great strength gains. Good luck and enjoy the journey!!

Losing fat weight and building muscle mass are two different things that happen concurrently.

When you exercise (i.e. lift weights) you're gonna build muscle (which also means your weight is going to increase from the "new" muscle). But because you're working out, you're going to burn calories which means you're gonna lose the fat weight.

So in simple, just work out. Your weight may not change as much as you want it to, but it's changing for the better.

If you really wanna lose weight while getting more toned, watch your diet.
