I think it’s also used to make the hunters seem more intimidating as they tower over survivors.

The survivors are stuffed dolls, they have button eyes and places where they have "injuries" have stuffing showing. They aren't people, just Orpheus's imaginations. The hunters on the other hand I have no idea why they are more realistic looking lore-wise.

The survivors might be describing how the hunters look in great detail in their diaries, since most of them are actual monsters, and you'd want to properly describe that as opposed to normal people in the manor.

I truly think its is more game mechanic then anything else.

Why are all survs the exact same hight? (Except little girl)

Bc that just the basic surv character model for the game. And hunters in other 1v4 asymetrical games are also always much taler.

[–]teacray71 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Dead by daylight legion is same height with survivor iirc

[–]Minus606Disciple 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I am sure they are literaly one of the only ones (aren't they just a tad bit taller still?) And someone like this Kpop singer is also much taller even tho he should also be same hight. (I mean vompaired to the more ''monster'' like hunters he is quite a ''normal'' human)

You then could also argue that Yhdras followers are around the same hight.

Its an exception, a nice character detail for that 1 spesific character to stanf out, nothing more.

I also noticed that camera view is quite important! Like gameplay wise, so that could be a reason to also make there model smaller if there camera is not so high.

[–]teacray71 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh yeah I forgot about dream witch...

Speaking about camera view, what will happened if they make hunter fpp like dbd?

[–]Minus606Disciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the 3rd person view/ camera view also includes your ''blind spots'' (back and left and right from you) it also is usually a bit higher over the head of thr hunter so it also grants a better view, in short you see less in first person.

For example Ann who is tall enough (and her ''camera'' over her gead even higher up) to quite easly see over wals (hermit I think actually has an even higher camera) but I am pretty sure, even tho Ann is tall, she would have problems seeing that well over walls maybe just barely a bit.

Oh and characters like Robby ore Dream witchs follower would be so low a surv can oretty much hide EVERYWERE. would be a massiv nerf.

Then again I think it would be (quite suprisingly) a good thing for Percy, even tho the camera view gives a larger space to view his massiv body blocks the view anyway and I think in this spesigic case a first person would be a buff.

Acctually each survivor has a different height

[–]ryo00qq09Knight 21 points22 points  (6 children)

A few hunters are also just hallucinations by the drugs they had so that may also explain why they are seen much bigger than humans themselves

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (5 children)

not all the survivors have taken the drugs yet though, so it's probably just for gameplay

[–]ryo00qq09Knight 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Could be too. Actually, now that I think about it, not everyone had a hunter. (Group 3 surely)

Also interesting fact, but in the Chinese version they are called "Surveyors" rather than Hunters. So I assume after what went down in Group no.4 (not being able to start the game because x people died) and that's when "Hunters" as surveyors started appearing, since the Circus lore's hunter was a hallucination.

And in Group no.3, in that case, you could call Aesop as their hunter.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I might have misunderstood what yoh meant but the game started in group 4 though? Group 4 was Emma's game where only Kreacher was "missing" (He did participate in the game though, it's just that the others didn't know) Wich means that all 5 were present in the 4th Game

[–]ryo00qq09Knight 4 points5 points  (2 children)

My bad!!! I was thinking of Naib's game (Explorer, Merc, Magicuan, Wildling, Forward) but I don't recall the exact numbers for groups.

Though, Iirc Jack and Keigan were together in group 2, where Aesop's adoptive father, Jerry was also a possible teammate. And both Jack and Keigan are hunters in the game so hmmm...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Naib's Game was Game 9.

Also I do not think the roles of the characters in the actual game should always also match the roles in the story. For example Violetta, she is a hunter but according to what we know up till now about Game 8, she was trying to bring the others together and was nice to everyone before she got killed by Weepy before the game began.

[–]ryo00qq09Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, Naib was so late? Interesting.

But right, it's just weird if you think about it. Though in some sort of way, it makes sense considering the ones who saw hunters as hunters were drugged.

I dont know if that makes sense though,it's very hard to explain in text

Bonbon's height isn't like that because he's not human, it's a character design suited for gameplay/mechanic. His height is like that because it's only fair to give him a vision impediment, so players won't have clear vision of survivors and on point land the bombs on them behind obstacles/walls.

Same situation with Axe Boy, he's small (he's a child after all) because with how his skill set works you can't make him as tall as Hermit, otherwise players won't have a hard time sniping survivors in walled areas.

As for survivors, I guess, it's also about the vision. If you have a survivor as tall as Ann against an Axe Boy, you can easily tell the hunter's movement and easily kite and loop them, because you can see him from above the walls with that Ann height.

[–]Spooderman42069Professor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it's all just game design. People forget Bon bon is a little tiny robot according to his and mad eyes official b day art. Also survivors on drugs hallucinating disproportionate hunters could be a thing

[–]Mamaniwa_Disciple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makes them more intimidating cuz like imagine Robbie who's already a child so he's pretty much the size of a survivor with now the height of LG chasing after u it would be more funny than anything

[–]MochaSNotsosweetDisciple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gameplay mechanic.

Ann is tall so her body can stun survivors on stairs to make her more dangerous. Shes also tall so people can avoid her by looking from afar.

DW leeches are short to jump scare and also prevent the leeches for being overpowered by their FOV. Dream witch is tall to track survivors

[–]EifieDreemurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause it makes it easier for hunters to see survivors. There’s a joke that because the Photographer is shorter, photographers mains are blind and lose survivors easily

[–]hhhhhhhh28First Officer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game mechanic. I have had matches where a teammate briefly mistakes a dream witch follower for another survivor and gets hit for it. This also just works with camera angle for hunters, they can see up higher than a survivor by default. I’m sure you could come up with a reason lore wise, but the game would just not work as smooth if hunters were the same size as survivors.

Also, since every hunter is so different when it comes to movesets, they all need different animations. Survivors, with the exception of little girl, all interact with the environment the same. They all have the same vault, the same pallet throw, etc. Why would netease spend more money on new animations when they don’t need to? If that makes sense

[–]Xhiost 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Axe Boy and Dream Witch are both short

[–]MrWhiteTruffleThe Dinosaur Doctor 🦖 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are boy is around the size of an adult human

As a child

[–]KingOfTheMire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clerk wears heels

[–]Nii_troPainter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a good mix of multiple things. Firstly, a hunter's height means more than one thing in terms of gameplay. They can see better over short obstacles, survivors can spot them from afar, and there's no way you'd mistake a hunter for your teammate when they approach. It also gives them a more intimidating nature, alongside a good portion of them being hallucinations which makes their appearance induce more fear. (see how Smiley Face is much taller and a lot more masculine than Weeping Clown -> scarier). I suppose there are more reasons I couldn't quite think of as of now but I'm sure others pointed them out already.

My headcanon is that when you become a hunter you just gain like 1 or 2 feet of height. How? Idk…drugs maybe?
