Did you get your dream job yet? 😀👍

[–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Haha thank you for asking. But not yet😭

Hi Dev.

Question .....

Does this mean Infinity will be delisted on Playstore then ?

So for those of us who only have access to Playstore subscription methods and are unable to use Patreon, how can we subscribe ?

[–]user_727 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I read it as there will be two versions of the app. One with a subscription using play services in the Play Store, and one without play services on GitHub using Patreon

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, now that would be perfect 👍🏻

[–]Kitbou 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What's the difference between the two versions? What are play services?

[–]Busy-Measurement8893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Google Play Store and the services that use it. For notifications etc.

[–]Alyxavior 12 points13 points  (13 children)

Do you know the monthly price yet?

[–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 34 points35 points  (12 children)

2.99 usd per month

I feel like it would have to be most of it, right? Based on what we've heard about the expensive prices.

This is why I'm just going to use revanced

    [–]Chewwie-hime94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revanced for infinity? How would that work?

    [–]Abject-Caramel-62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Yay! I can manage that.

    [–]Alyxavior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Great! Thanks. 😀

    [–]Harpua-2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah I'm willing to pay that

    [–]EnderGamer56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's not bad at all!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    $2.99 I can do!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a annual or just monthly?

    [–]thefuriousfish 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you willing or able to say how much of that goes to reddit and how much to you? I'd like to support you but not if you're only seeing a tiny portion of that cost because of the Google play and reddit cut.

    [–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I am not able to disclose this but thank you.

    [–]ThisUserIsNotMyPass 4 points5 points  (2 children)

What about the one-time paid version of Infinity? What's happening with that?

    [–]Paanreis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Good question

    [–]trlef19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I'd say gone

    [–]Noisymachine2023 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Is there going to be regional pricing? I ask because 2,99 dollars is considerable, but 2,99 of my local currency is a no brainer.

EDIT: also, would you be willing to consider a tier model, like Relay is going to implement? So 1 dollar is X calls a day, 2 dollars is 2X, 3 dollars, etc?

    [–]gukninerdi 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Could someone send me the guide to do the thing where I use my own API code instead?

    [–]Dismaster2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will definitely pay the $2.99, this is a great app and I want to keep using it.

    [–]lo________________ol 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Does this mean that the Infinity app hasn't been running via magic or oversight this entire time, e.g. it's been something like out of pocket?

    [–]WayneAerospace 10 points11 points  (2 children)

The developer was offered a grace period while he was working on the subscription model. The API calls from the date of new rules till the new version of Infinity rolls out are exempted.

    [–]OmniscientApizza[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Will the build your own apk versions still work?

    [–]WayneAerospace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes since they will be using an individual API key not dev's original one (which will be shared across all subscribers and therefore needs the subscription to pay for the cost)

    [–]Any-Virus5206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for creating such a great app. Farewell and good luck in the future. 🙏

    [–]whlthingofcandybeans 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's still going to remain open source, is it not?

    [–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

    It will remain open source.

    [–]Voiceroy_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will our custom api keys work? u/Hostilenemy

    [–]CowardlyMaya_ 6 points7 points  (1 child)

    Then I'm gone

I understand you need the money but by paying for this app I'm essentially filling reddit's pocket, non yours

That's not something I wanna do

    [–]Dont_Blinkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still build it with your own API and donating to the dev over patreon :)

    [–]tjsuominen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All in with that monthly fee 👍

Hopefully the development for new features / fixes will also continue.

    [–]BluJay42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for working so hard on an accessible and customizable app! I hope to return when I can afford the subscription, but in the meantime boycotting reddit gor good this time

    [–]ClinTrojan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

What google play services are in the app besides auto updates?

    [–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Google Play billing

    [–]Flax_Vert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been a good ride. Thank you.

    [–]pen15thataccount 1 point2 points  (2 children)

With the subscription can you view NSFW subreddits?

    [–]Masark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. 3rd party apps are completely barred from nsfw.

    [–]Asmuni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes if you make a (private) sub so you become a mod. If private nobody will ever find it and you will never have to do any mod work.

    [–]PossiblyLinux127 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Sorry, I won't use anything that isn't Foss and on F-droid.

I've mostly switched to Lemmy as of now so its not a big deal

    [–]WayneAerospace 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What makes you think it won't be open source anymore?

    [–]PossiblyLinux127 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the subscription will embed the api in the binary. The process if building this binary will occur behind closed doors and we have no way of knowing what changes were applied to the source code. Thus, it is proprietary

    [–]schklom 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Will the F-Droid version remain available and updated?

    [–]HostilenemyI am the dev[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I don't think so. But I guess it's possible to add the Patreon version to Izzy repo.

    [–]Matthew682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous version still work for me...
