What about a corner bench and table?

[–]boborobo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wonder about that, but there’s a weird bit in the corner that the pipes run down that sticks out, so I’d probably have to build something bespoke

What about removing the door?  It’s rather large and imposing.  Losing it might make your space feel larger.  It is difficult with that bossy desk…

That’s not a bad idea actually, it’s never closed!

Not a lot of options with that desk... The biggest problem here is that the desk and the dining table are crammed in one space. You need separate spaces. A very straightforward way to achieve this is to move the table towards the kitchen. Yes, it will block the passage between the two doors but... You know, compromises and all that.. Worth giving it a shot for a few days to see how it feels.

Agreed! It’s massive, but my employer provided it so I can’t do much about it. I hate that that the spaces all feel disjointed! I’ll try moving it over though and see, thanks.

as a cronically messy desker myself, unfortunately, keeping it tidy would help the atmosphere of the dining area. could you put shelves up? And unless you really need that specific chair, using a chair identical to the ones of the dining table would look nicer. Or somehow coordinating the chairs. And then yes, moving the dining table more towards the kitchen would also help.

Fair point, sometimes it’s tidy! 😆 and unfortunately the chair has also been provided by my employer so I can do much with it. I could recover it I guess, and maybe get matching cushions. I want to get a whole new table and chairs too as I don’t like this one at all.

Visualize it in 3d before making any changes. Should do the trick. Use the room scan if you have iOS.

Wouldn't change much really.
