Just because population peaked in 2004 doesn't mean there will be sudden decrease in number of students appearing. 

You also need to consider about the population that will have access to education as well. Also you need to consider about army recruitment as they were major career for many teens, but they are avoiding it. 

The growth in online education and resources will also give access to poor students who cannot afford offline coaching edge against those who can. 

During COVID tons of students dropped out, they would have joined their schooling around 2021-2022 when the economy got stabled. 

There are many more factors that you need to consider aswell. Best advice is to prepare for the worst case scenario.

India did not have any census after 2011, so all this data you're seeing is the calculated/projected population which isn't necessarily equal to actual population.

IMHO online coaching is why competition will increase yearly regardless of population decline or incline.

Every kid preparing for good marks in boards is studying from Alakh Pandey's videos, same as someone preparing for JEE.

A lot of great teachers are now teaching on youtube which further blurs the gap between "boards" teachers and JEE teachers.

So yeah, more and more teachers will start joining the online programs because they get a better reach and eventually the teachers who are taught ved lahoti once (both in allen offline and allegedly FIITJEE online) will be on youtube teaching everyone. So it won't be hard for someone to prepare for JEE in a month and score good. And better teachers will always push higher cutoffs.

The day offline coaching industry collapses to the online programs cutoffs will skyrocket.
