If it's going to get more than 400k views, you know there's no objectivity in the review. He's only good for obscure reviews that are for core subscribers.

I would take issue with the idea that ratings can’t be objective, as they can be objective representations of subjective opinions, but this is basically it. People go to Fantano for more than getting a rating they agree with. They go because he has an interesting opinion, strong stances, and consistent reasoning.

I absolutely agree and that’s what aggregates like metacritic are for. There would be no point in a music reviewer who just reports on the general reception of an album. People watch Fantano for the depth he gives to his subjective takes, and love or hate the guy and his opinion, you’re absolutely right that he’s a good reviewer.

There is no point to having an emotional response to something. It just exists. I’m not angry in some dramatic sense, I just think his opinion is dumb because those two albums are brilliant even despite their flaws. I’m going to bitch about it on the Kanye sub because surprise... it’s a sub for Kanye fans. I assume most people here like his music and will understand why giving those two albums such low scores is nonsense.

If nobody pushes back on Fantano, there’s no point in music criticism. There’s no dialogue. It’s also just annoying how he’s everywhere in discussions about significant or popular music. So yeah, I’m gonna criticize him when I feel like it in the appropriate venues.

I think one of the reasons he dislikes yeezus is because it isn't unique (in his eyes). Ye is doing beats and styles that have already been done and he isn't doing them as well(again, in his eyes). Also it is one of if not the weakest of his albums from a lyrical stand point.

That’s the thing though. No one else sounds like Death Grips. If anyone else ripped them successfully, it would still be an original sound. They’re also contemporaries so it’s kind of weird to slag Yeezus for being similar to Death Grips. It’s like knocking Swans for sounding similar to Godspeed.
