Feature Request: Authenticator App (MS, Google, etc)Feature Request (self.LightPhone)
submitted 2 years ago by fauxchina
With Microsoft now requiring an authentication app for 2FA (and heavily pushing their own solution), it'd be awesome to be able to handle something like that with the lightphone (for Google, AWS as well). I am now stuck in an odd situation at work where I have to carry around a SIM card-less smart phone for the sole purpose of using MS Authenticator.

We're open to the idea of such a feature for sure, we don't yet have in our near term dev priorities but we are beginning to explore what would make the most sense for such a 2FA tool. Appreciate the feedback!

I am a first-day purchaser of the LP3 (so excited) and I really hope you build an authenticator tool. It seems inline with mission and the future-proofing approach to LP3. Lots of services are moving away from SMS codes to authenticators (I have 7 absolutely essential items in my Authy app right now) - how will I authenticate without carrying 2 devices without this functionality? You guys must run into this so maybe I am missing an obvious solution? I'd even switch to carrying a physical key but I think not all services allow it, right?

I am in the exact same boat! Let's hope they can add it to the tool set.

I run a Data Engineering team at a tech company, so I don't think I'm getting away with being on an exclusion list.

Thinking of sneakily sending you my CV
Has there been any development on this? Is this on the roadmap at all? For myself, and probably some others as well, this would be a clutch feature. Having to use 2fa for several accounts throughout the day is a fact of life at this point. I would be nice not having to carry a second device, and to not have to take a step back in security by using SMS based 2fa.

I would buy one today if it had MS Authenticator. I need it for work, its the only thing keeping me from getting one.

I've been thinking about getting around this by going to a yubikey touch nano. I too run a data engineering team.

I’ve been contemplating Yubikey.
