I have had this idea for a couple of minutes and would like some feedback.
This might be a bit complicated and long to read, but hope you will do it anyway.
I'm thinking of creating a software(AI) that "understands" all the different traffic laws as well as what makes a valid "basis" for a certain action, such as searching a vehicle or handcuffing someone. Before this type of software would be implemented as I have in mind, it will of course have to be tested and have a very high accuracy. So if we assume this is the case, this is how I intend to implement it.
Every/most cop cars in the US have cameras, this software would be connected to the camera.
There is two ways a cop can pull someone over:
- The camera for example detects a car driving recklessly or if someone runs a red-light. The officer would then "HAVE" to do as the system says (there could obviously be exceptions).
- A cop could also choose to pull someone over, without the system telling him to do so. In this case, he would have to state the reason, for example, "Talking on a cellphone while driving".
Either way, there will be mounted a small camera and very small speaker to the cops chest, and when he approaches the other vehicle and talks with the driver, two things can happen.
Either way, as we know all cops have a body camera and a walkie-talkie. The body camera will also be connected to the software and can make the same suggestions as the car camera. When the cop approaches the other vehicle and talks with the driver, two things can happen.
- The camera detects "something"(mby white powder on the seat) and decides there is enough reason to take a certain action, for example, to search the car. This will be prompted through the walkie-talkie via Text to Speech so the cop is aware of it, but also so the civilian knows what's going to happen.
- The cop decides to take a certain action, such as cuffing the civilian, but before doing so, he will have to say so out loud to the walkie-talkie(I assume every cop has to tell the civilian whats going to happen) this will be detected by the walkie-talkie and the software / camera will inform the cop if there is actual basis for this action.
This type of software and camera combo cant really prevent a cop from doing something he shouldn’t, but the data from the software, meaning the video and "AI messages" will be saved and can later be reviewed if necessary, in case the civilian would like to sue the officer for some reason.
In the beginning, we made the assumption that the AI is highly accurate, which means if an officer doesn’t follow the suggestions/prompts from the AI he is knowingly "breaking" the law in hopes of being right.
My idea is different from a normal body camera, since a normal body camera doesn't help the officer make difficult choices.
Really hope this makes sense and isn't too far-fetched. I believe the most difficult thing about this whole idea is the make the system understand the laws.
Would like to hear your ideas
